Do the cops monitor this site?

After the Anzac ride this weekend some of us are a little concerned that the publicity we give to rides, thier depart point, times and stops between (pubs etc) is good info for any enthusiastic cop to take note of and set whatever speed or RBT trap they wish.

The RBT we were involved in was in an issolated area with little traffic and just around a bend near Nannup WA on Friday afternoon. Nannup was one of the places listed on the "organise a ride" thread for the Ballingup Anzac ride. It may be coincidence but hey who wants to give the cops anymore reason to hammer us.

We may need to just highlight the fact that a ride is going to occur and have phone in re depart spot and times and leave the route to be dicussed at departure time.

As this site gets more popular and ride activity increases the more the chance that the cops are going to take note.

    Anyway food for thought.

    BT,
A while back I would have said that you were being paranoid but in this day and age who really knows if the cops do monitor this site to track peoples movements. I wouldn't put it past them. The fact is that this site is publicly accessible to anyone that wants to register. It's been on the cards for a while for me to restrict more areas of the site to registered users only. Also what I'm going to do is re-write the terms and conditions and stipulate in there that the site is for genuine enthusiasts only not others such as cops who would simply register to track peoples movements.

    Hey kingchops
They don't have to register at all thought do they ? Anyone can get access to the 'Oraganise a Ride' and 'Upcoming Events' section as they are open aren't they ?.
These types of sites are great for passive information gathering, for certain agencies.

and they would just register to gain access to restricted sites ,

    Crimson,

Personally I wouldn't stop publicising rides but if people feel that their local cops are taking an interest and are reacting to where they go, which is not altogether impossible, then they should be more conscious of what they post. At the end of the day it's a privacy issue. There's no reason people can't decide for themselves whether or not to publicise their rides.

    Crimson,

In another life I was privy (long storey) to what (WA) police intelligence have access to and to what degree things are monitered. They are interested, proberly not to the point of delibertly setting out to get Forum Members but just to see what is going on in another part of the community. The forum is new and has generated quite a bit of interest.

With the amount of resources available to them these days it would be naive to think they were not having a look.

I am not saying get all paranoid and not post info about gatherings, rides or destinations. Just be mindful that what is writen is public information and can be used by anyone for any porpose.

all sites related to motorcycles are monitored, along with thousands of others.....

a number of sites promoted rides down south this weekend... Nannup, Pemberton, Quindanning etc are just a few of the stop points people post. You guys were just unlucky. Last year a group of us got stopped during a long weekend ride in Kirup...

I got stopped last weekend in between Bridgetown and Manjimup at about 1200 hrs for license check and RBT, was just set up by 4 cops and they seemed to be doing a good job, but then maybe they were after some one inparticular, who knows.............................

Yes crimson, I agree that it would be naive to think they are gathering "sinister intelligence", but what I did say is that they would be having a look at the site.

Since 9/11 a lot of things changed. All it takes is a few key words like BOMB, any important name like RUDD.....you get the message.

    The "BOTs are watching.

Anyway I'm off to change my name and get a wig just in case..........now who was that on here that had the ability to make dodgy pasports???????

Fully agree with Crimson and RT, the fact that you guys were stopped was pure coincidence.

    1. It was a long weekend so with a "Road Safety" campaign and double demerits, every available Plod had to be working some traffic related duty.

    2. It is a wel known fact that on the ANZAC day long weekend, so called "Outlaw Bike Clubs" do conduct runs and because Cops don't know where they are going, they set up the road blocks where they think "OMCG" may be going.

Do not get paranoid about that. If they were really waiting for you, they would be doing more that just RBT's and licence checks. IMHO they would have gone through your bikes and put Yellow Stickers as well. As I understand from your info none of you guys got done for anythink, so the Cops did not achieve anythink either (no statistics at all to show the boss).

I have been stopped by them many time but so far so good, can't complain.

As some of you may recall I was hammering down along Grand Promenade on Australia Day long weekend, split the line at the intersection of Walter Road and just before the lights changed to green, a Cop on motorbike (commonly known as ScootaPig) pulled behind me and gently reminded me about double demerits. I politely thanked him for the info and that was it, no ticket, no harrasment.

    Stay safe

from all accounts the boys over this side have a database linking rider with bike... or so I've heard

I know that I have been photographed filling up the hawg.. along with every other guy on the ride that day... again it's only speculation what they use the photos for, but it may have something to do with front facing speed cameras.

Ah yes. Then there is the "Consorting" law. Repelled in the late 1970's, reintroduced in the double oughts after 9/11.
Anti bikie bill etc is a moot point, the powers that be can use the consorting law anytime 3 or more people get together and 1 of you
has a criminal record. Sedition? Consorting? Terrorism? Bikie bill? Same shit different colour.

    Thanks for the vigerous debate.

Isn't this forum a great medium to express our views, fears and riding stories.

Nothing will stop me riding where, when and how I like, except the loss of 12 demerit points.
