For the reference to those who replied to "how much will this cost" & others in the future. I have just got home from picking my Sportster C 2005 from Peter Stevens in Melbourne city. I had a drive belt break on it while I was on the Monash fwy on my way back to Albury last week & had to take it into the nearest dealer to get a new one. I left it there to come back when they had done it. I was plenty apprehensive about how much it would cost, feeling that the big city dealership might get stuck into the "country boy".
Well my fears were all wrong it cost me a total of $394.75 all up, belt 218.85 & labour $140.00, they were curteous & considerate.
The weather was cool down there but as I got further north the weather got better & I had a great ride home as well as one can on a 3.5 hr freeway trip, hmmmm wonder how long I could do it on a German Autobahn with no speed limit. Maybe my arms would be f*^&&^%d after an hour
Hard to replace them on the side of the Monash fwy about 4km from Melb city at 9.30 on Monday morning when you are 350km from home, even on a nice sunny day.
Spend your $140 + on roadside assist??
smiles all round hey Dermie.... lots of dealers charge 90 - 100/hr so gotta be good.
I think that's the sort of money they charge but they did the work in about 1 1/2 hrs.
Yeah that's true, it would be hard for Peter Stevens MC to charge much less than that in the middle of the city in Melb. They have a huge workshop on the 1st floor with a ramp up to take bikes in & out, and a lift for the comotose ones. And talk about people walking around their pay bill would be massive. I don't mind paying (well I do) that sort of money (gotta expect it) but they should be efficient, I don't want to pay that sort of money for some dickhead rooting around trying to first find out what's wrong then screwing up the fixing. Big bike dealerships should be sharp & efficient, there should be heaps of information within the organisation to get stuff sorted. & it looked to me (at the end result) that Peter Stevens MC were efficient. Good result all round & I had a good excuse to ride my bike for 4hrs.
By the way in the opposite context to this, I had to get the train down to Melb on Vic Rail = big organisation with dedicated & exclusive transport system took 4.5 hrs to get me there when one can do it in 3 - 3.5 on the freeway.
