Noise cameras to target trucks on Victoria's roads

Minister Pallas was just on channel seven and he never said its for trucks , he continue to refer to noisy vehicles will be targeted by the new noise cameras, i guess looking at it as it is, my bike will be unrideable in its current state. Am i over reacting or is the end of the road for loud harleys on the roads in Victoria???? Ofcourse this has nothing to do about revenue raising!!!

UPDATE 12.50pm: SLEEPLESS residents tormented 24/7 by noisy engine braking have welcomed the sound relief of a new camera aimed at catching out trucks, motorcyclists and cars roaring through their neighbourhood.

A noise camera will be used in around 28 hotspots around Melbourne from early March.

Trucks or motorcycles letting off a sound greater than 80 decibels and a car that reaches more than 74 decibels will be detected by the roadside camera.

Are noisy trucks a problem in your area? Tell us below

The noise will trigger the roadside camera to take a picture of the offender and record the sound.

Geelong Ring Rd, near Waurn Ponds, Frankston, Yarraville, Buninyoung and Southbank will be the first to be targeted.

Chairman of the local owners’ corporation in Southbank David Jones welcomed the measure that he says will finally bring relief to thousands of residents living near main roads.

Forgive me if I'm wrong, ain't we legally fine up to 96db, being stock?! Lmao.

And lets get trucks off the road. Shit, everyone knows produce just grows wings and flies to retail and households from ports. This state is beyond help. Thankfully, 10 days til relief = departure.

I see trucking idiots everyday using their engine brakes on flat freeways while stuck in traffic. It must be too hard for them to use their foot on the proper brake. It may be bit harsh, but I say ban ALL trucks from every where within 200 kilometres of any city.

That was taken from the full story

Ban all trucks from the city hows this fuckin cock head gona get his fuckin weeties the tool
,What a fuckin waste of bandwidth shouldnt be allowed to have a computer the cock head
Just find out were they are and back of then wind it up again
Thats it iam gona put both engine brakes on in the truck fuck em all ill wake the pricks up if iam awake so are they bastids
Anyway i think its a good idea noisy bloody harleys
    cheers

Does anyone know how these cameras take evidence?

If it ever went to court surely they couldn't use a photo as evidence as there's no sound.  Do they take video I wonder?

In any case enough is enough with this revenue raising crap.

without front number plates how does the sound recording and camera work together ? sound and light travelling separately - ask the physics teacher !

what if 3,4 vehicles are near each other - how does the system discriminate ? ( oh I know it must be the bike making the noise !)

This could get interesting. EPA uses a 94db cut off using a stationary noise test unless your bike is older than a date I cant remember, and the limit is then 100db. The 80db seems to be a "drive-by" test  (which cracks a mention in the ADR 83/00, even though EPA only does stationary testing). The SE slipons I have stamped on them state that they comply with the 80db limit (49 US state legal). As mentioned in a post elswhere, they failed the stationary test. If an "old" bike registers high, the poor (after paying to have a stationary test done) owner is just making a "compulsory" donation to the EPA authorised noise testing agent,  since presumably he/she will pass the stationary test. I dont know what the noise 'drop-off" is with distance. Most things I google say that the drop off is about 4-6 db for every double of distance from source, but the frequency of the noise also has an effect. Background noise also comes into it. If the EPA tests you they have the microphone 500mm from the exhaust. If it was 94 db at 0.5 m, using 4 db drop per double of distance, it would be 90 db at 1m, 86 db at 2 m, 82 db at 4m, 78 db at 8 m etc. See link below for EPA testing procedure. There is also a link on the page to ADR83/00 Stationary Noise "Signature" Data - Supplementary Spreadsheet.Interestingly this lists some bikes which are above the 94db limit.

    http://www.infrastructure.gov.au/roads/environment/noise.aspx

    http://www.ntc.gov.au/DocView.aspx?documentid=01085   link to ADR 83/00

I was looking for other info but it gets to confusing.  Hope I havent screwed anyones brain with too much crap, it confuses me.

Trucks? Too loud you say?... They're fucking TRUCKS!!!

This state is turning into a pack of little fucking dick-less wimps. People crying that they live on a main fucking road, and crying that trucks using their brakes is too fucking loud for their bitch little ears. Hey! Let's remove all truck's engine brakes, then see what happens! You dumb fuckers. Grow a pair or fuck off.

Fuck I tell ya, I'm outta Vic in a coupla years. Fuck this shit.

most Harley's from the Factory in Standard trim have a noise label sticker with 94db (A) to 96db( A)  @ 3250 rpm on the noise level  sticker , some metric cruiser's  e.g like the M109R have 93db (A) @ 3100rpm , so whats with this 80db crap ???

Exactly MIKER, how the fuck can it be even possible and allowed to be set at 80 ? This is my whole point. Standard harley standard pipes = 93. So how is it being set at 80 even remotely fair ?

All comes down to 2 words

"Trucks or motorcycles letting off a sound greater than 80 decibels and a car that reaches more than 74 decibels will be detected by the roadside camera".

How does the camera destinguish a car from a bike or truck? or does it take pictures at 74 and someone then manually determines?

Anyhoo, my bike WILL remain loud and if I go past one I will just pull the clutch in or wind the throttle off until past
