Hi all, i am getting a new derby cover for my 07 sporty and i am wondering what is involved with taking old one off and putting new one on?

will i have to drop the primary oil and replace it?

i know there is an O- Ring in there but does this job require me to basically drop my primary oil and replace?  i havent as yet bought a service manual cause someone is supposedly getting me one for my b'day, any info would help alot thanks

Keep the bike upright, perhaps the kickstand on a block of wood. Just undo the bolts in sequence, as you would a car wheel. I would replace the O Ring, cheap insurance against an oil leak, and re do the bolts in sequence. Lastly, you should not leak any primary fluid.

thanks guys so obviously the oil level in the primary case isnt hagher than the bottom of the derby cover case? cause i only serviced my bike at 16k and dont want to have to put more oil in,once i get the cover ill try that but if need be il get more oil, and yes i will be replacing the O- Ring dont want any oil leaks thanks guys

Depending on what type of Derby cover you put on you might need a different type of gasket, I did with mine.

Just remember, that if it is the gasket type, as opposed to oring, then you must make sure that the side marked face to clutch goes the right way
I am not sure which way the other side faces, as there was nothing written on it

I'd like to change the timer cover on mine. Any complications there?

I'm also getting a black fuel cap but I reckon I can just about manage the installation of that without too much help.  :)

If I remember correctly, it was only a couple of allen hex bolts. I love showing photos of my old Sporty!!
