    Hi all,

Since getting off italian bikes and onto a Harley, the wife wants to come with me all the time now....(must be something about the vibration) so a bigger bike is wanted (mutter mutter) to keep the good lady happy.....you know, storage for all the crap they like to take with them, wider seat, electric every thing etc.etc.

So it looks like I'll be joining the touring brigade! mind if I come in?

GSMC in Albany has offered me a good deal trading my dyna on a 2010 road king standard, spoke rims (not a a fan of the new mags) and the usual stage 1 stuff. Any advice/ideas before pick up?

    Cheers, Stumbly

Add a 4 point dock, backrest and rack if GSMC are looking after you on accessories fitted new otherwise get them ex USA.

I agree, get a quick detach backrest, they come in different lengths,so get one the height that gives the most back support to your other half, and for the rider,I recommend a set of touring pegs mounted to the crash bars,so you can stretch your legs.No use having a bike that you want to ride for long miles when your legs are cramped up and stuck on the boards. And then the sky is the limit !!!

Thanks every one, i've taken that advice and ordered a backrest (size to be determined) the tuner is part of the stage 1 kit - apparently screaming eagle race tuner, good? Bad? indifferent?. Whats a 4 point dock? something to keep her happy or me? high way pegs - yep! the mags could go either way as frasers is trying to get my buisness by under cutting them, but they only have mags available...

    Thanks again, Stumbly

A four point dock is the quick detach hardware that allows a backrest and or a rack to clip on and off to the bike.

I have both a rider and pillion backrest and on a longer journey the riders backrest is great and only takes a minute ot put on or remove.

The highway pegs are also great for stretching out.

I love mine as its such a versatile bike and can be taken from full tourer to stripped down in minutes.

Which spoked wheels are they suggesting as I believe the Classic has a 16 inch front rim?

    Congrats!

    cheers

I personally would get the bike with mags,as I have experienced sitting on the side of the road for hours because I had a puncture in a bike with wire wheels and was unable to just put a plug in it,because it had a tube in it.Sold the bike after that and bought a bike with wire wheels again, but this time they were replace ASAP.Now I have onboard air and carry a plug kit

Fantastic Bike those new Road Kings... Enjoy the ride. My missus wouldn't get on the back of the BMW K100, but she did get on the back of "The King", ... and guess what....she hates this one too.. WTF... Says her ass gets too sore. So today I got a sheepskin, cut it to fit, seems OK so far. I'll do a long ride tomorrow..

If they are perfect I would go for the cheaper ones for sure.

Right, its looks like the deal's almost done with Frasers. I would have liked to deal with Great Southerns but i guess the volume Frasers deals in gives them a bit more to play with - $1500 difference.
The only thing is they don't have any V&H monster ovals available, has any one used the V&H "touring" slip on's? or would I be better of with the SE slip on's?
Thanks for all the advice so far....

    cheers, stumbly

I have got the V&H touring slip ons on my Street Glide.

They are louder than the Monster Ovals and sound different. Mine sound like a quieter SE muffler whereas the Monster Ovals have a deeper rumble and are quieter.

Thanks gents, the V&H I had on the street bob were almost too loud if there is such a thing - definitely cop bait. I'll have a look at the touring slip ons any way and will have a look at those ones on the link. They look the goods Lofty, looking standard and still breathing better - gotta be happy with that.

If you are Perth based you can listen to my V&H Ovals to get an idea of how noisy they are

Can confirm Lofty's choice with the Flea bay mufflers, got these installed also in the 2" baffle, they have a nice deep rumble.. and not loud  at cruising speed..

    bloody beaudiful mate!

Got all the goodies with it - cruise, ABS etc.

It turns, stops, goes a whole lot different to the dyna - love those brembos. Handles really well for a big bike. I'll be doing something with the seat and bars but other than that probably leaving it as is.

I will be putting the slip ons on today, stealers won't do it on a new bike, some thing about anti pollution laws or some other wank gunna cost em $13000 in fines blah blah.

But yeah, i'm really happy with it. I'll post up some photo's later in the week, put around 150 k's on it straight after pick up but didn't take the camera. Good excuse to go again eh?

Thats the best thing about the Tourers - they turn and stop so much better than those pesky Dynas and Softies

    Thanks for that Phantom,

How's the sundowner's riders height compared to original? I wouldn't mind dropping about an inch off standard....

Will be over east in july/august doing the family thing in a caravan, will pm ya when i get there and shout ya a couple back!

Stumbly - The Sundowner seat is lower and the wife loves the pillion - once you get the slip ons fitted I can probably help you with a new map for your bike
