    Just a thought.........
Many is the time I have heard someone say,
"I put points in, as I can always fix them easy"
Yet the only problems they have are because they have points

I have never quite come to grips with this logic

hi , people like that they are familiar with  as you can't repair & electronic ign on the side of the road you have to pick up the bike then chase up the ign system  & then fit it up , with points it depends if you have spares with you or not , but with mechanial points system you have to learn to look after it your self  proper ,  otherwise go too & electronic ign system  but the cost is 200 to 250 V's 1000 bucks from points to  a Hi-4 crane for e.g.  if you are a slow to med fast  rider that  works on his own bike well that  would be ok ,  but for mantainance  free  & more precice timings then electronic is the best  ,  most electronic systems are pretty good these days  for  4 - 6 years at least  , i can set points up buy hand  completey & you can check it with a timing light & it will be spot on timing's   i stopped checking  points set ups with a timing light 20 years ago . if you are interrested i set up a points system back in  the early   80's on my 1977  cast iron  sporty , it was a pair of  90 deg ( rightangle ) points out of a late 70's  jap bike like a GS750 , on 2 conta rotating backing plates , ground 1 cam lobe off the adv unit & made a single fire ign up back before you could buy them ,  i set the heads up with twin plugs & just ran a stock type high voltage andrews   coil & a stock condensor    ,                                                             i did a lot of performance modifications to that girl it even had a 45m.m. weber side draft carb cut into half ,    set up as a single throat side draft  like a S&S B carb but with fully adjustable internals etc as webers are  venturies  etc ,                                                 there is a 15 min segment interview  with that bike back in the ozbike movie  vol  1  .     i think they did about 3 or 4 movies i can't remember  but i sure can remember that bike i rode her everywhere for about 10 years  she had a lot of mods all sport enhancements like 11 1/2 " cast iron front  discs with brembo calipers , air fork caps , fork brace , braced- up frame & swinging-arm , fournales rear shocks  when they  1st came out , etc   it was a very nice bike to me it was my  1st  harley i owned  from 1980 ,   i often wonder what ever happened the her if she is still around the last i heard i think it got a rake job & high bars ?
