NHRS 1250 conversion

    Guys,

I've been toying with the idea of a 1200 conversion on the new Iron since I got it & was wondering has anyone here had experience with NRHS 1250 kit? - Seems like reasonable bang for your buck have been told it should make around 75hp with stock 883 cams / heads which seems reasonable to me for $700usd given the quality of the components used. - Ive also been told it will work fine with a stage 1 1200 re-flash, which would also help to keep costs down. - I'm also toying with the idea of porting the heads.

Anyone been down this path? - Any advice?

I'm doing the NRHS 1250 kit on my Iron as soon as I can afford it. There are a ton of guys in the States who have installed them and NRHS's customer support and feedback seem to be excellent. My only challenge is to find a reputable workshop in Sydney that will carry out the work for me. I have Branco Built Choppers available to me but Branco is based on the central coast - meaning I'd have to either ride the bike down to Sydney afterwards to get the ECU retune done (don't like the idea of a lean 883 tune on a 1250 being ridden on the highway) or get it transported up and back.

I have discussed this conversion with Branco and he reckons it is a one day job.

I also understand that installing the clutch spring from the 1200 model is a wise idea as the softer 883 clutch spring is inadequate.

On the actual kit itself I see nothing but plusses.

Compared to throwing tuning parts at the 883 to make more power it makes much more sense to simply upgrade the stock engine to 1250 and leave the exhaust and air filter stock. The only uncertainty is the cost of having Harley Davidson tune the ECU afterwards. You need to Screamin Budgie SRFERFERFERT tuner (or whatever its called) to suit the 2010 model. Then you need to do an actual tune on the dyno for a couple of hours as opposed to just flashing in a new 'map'. I'm budgeting around $2000 all up. Given a set of Vance & Hines pipes are $900, a Screamin Budgie air filter is $300 and the SERFREREFRFERFERFFRRFET tuning kit is $900 I reckon the NRHS route is the better deal.

With an 883 and $2200 bucks of bolt ons (plus fitting) you'd get around 55hp

With an 1250 kit that would be $2000 installed you'd get 70hp+

    No brainer.

Oh yeah, and with the 1250 kit using stock pipes and filter you'd never get pinged by the cops....

guy's just doing the 1250 kit wont get you 75hp the nrhs site does list 75hp for the 883-1250 kit but the dyno figure is for a bike with std 883 heads+2-1 pipes +ignition upgrade +hurricane(hi-flow) a/c + s/e 536 cams(stg 3)

add head porting for 80+hp add more porting + o/s vales for 90+ hp.....
and you will also need a tts/sest/pc111 and a dyno tune........$400

    i dought a 1200 flash will do!............you'll need a dyno..

    i helped fit a 1250 kit to my mates 05 883 but we also did 1200 heads+a/c+42 mikuni?k&n a/c +7000rpm ignition + oil cooler and the bike flies!!!!!!!!!!!!cost about $4000-00

Yes, they swapped to higher tension rings with their kits now which is the fix

Kit is on the way. - Looks like I'll be porting the stock 883 heads.

    Iron lined.

20 hp gain seems to be about the norm, but thats not what matters to me.

Dan gave me a estimate of what I should expect with the mods I have now, combined with his 1250 kit & a tune. 70-75hp.
We will soon see. - I'm still debating head work. - He's given me the specs for suggested headwork, and what to expect HP wise after that, So we shall see how we go.
This conversion is being done to a budget, so if the head work will blow it (however, it will be mates rates) it won't be getting done.

I was after some more shove more so than anthing else, so I don't really care what it makes, as long as it puts a smile on my face.
