2006 ..88ci Dyna Streetbob std. motor, stage 1 aircleaner, slip on V/H mufflers
all was running ok.
about 2 hours out stopped for food,, took off noticed the speedo wasnt working,
another hour stopped for fuel, bike would crank over but would not start,
pulled the main fuse , put it back, , did the 3 on & offs,, bike starts & runs good...
speedo,s working full time again ,, but bike wont start until the fuse has been removed/replaced ,,
this went on for 3 days till l got back home...
put it on the computer & it sais A MODLUE FIRMWARE CORRUPTION HAS OCCURED..
to fix the problem go to configure & check up dates...ra ra ra ...did that..
go to your file & choose a base map which will be loaded later since all the existing map will be erased..ra ra ra .did that..
LET THUNDERMAX KNOW OF THE PROBLEM....it sais,,, ill do that later cause of the time differance between us & them..
the ecm will not ( link) it does not do anything,, l cannot get any responce , cannot change any thing...
l hooked it up loosly this morning to give it another chance , just unpluged the std. ecm & pluged the t/max hanging off the side of the bike, ( did the 3 on-offs) l didnt install the 02 sensors as l dont think that would make a differance ,, could not get a link from the t/max (didnt think l would) but doesnt hurt to try..
l noticed the end of the 02 sensors were hot !! id placed them on the concrete next to the bike, the bike was dead cold of course ,hasnt been started for a week,, but they were hot!! to hot to touch with the end of a finger!!
Theres probably not much that can be done about this , since it wont recognise (link) comand,,
thought id share the imfo with you'se.. maybe some one has had this or simular happen?? who knows??
ill get in touch with thundermax soon see what they say...
Probably no help to you, but the only time I've had trouble linking to a Tmax is when trying to link
as a Vrod when the unit was for a Dyna (mate ordered the wrong unit !)
The Oxy sensors would have a pre-heat element I'm guessing.
Just for interest I had the same prob and a few more with my TMax.......Had 3 instument/speedo outs, 1 total engine out in mid ride and a battery drain event.....After that I did not have confidence in the thing anymore and put the orig ECM back in with TTS tune.....Very happy with the result....
As fot the TMax thats gathering dust in me shed.

Bobtail, l here that,!!! l had a few more issues as well l didnt mention .l was carrying the std ecm with me when out on a ride in case the t/max packed up as it did now & then. shows how reliable mine was!! l wouldnt buy other than harley again. after talking to a few shops and other riders who have them there must be a lot of t/maxes gathering dust under a bench some wheres..but l keep hereing ( they are a good unit,they work well , mines great, etc. etc. ),most do seem to live up to the what the owners want...l guess its a minority thing..(we happen to be in )
any way lm going to purchase or borrow a comunication cable just to check its not mine at fault, ( to get a link)l dought it but since it had to be bent to 90deg, to fit in the dyna housing, ,the outer case has cracked, the wires look ok but still for piece of mind, IF ANYBODY HAS A SPARE CABLE TO SELL OR LEND ME FOR A COUPLE OF DAYS?
if its not the cableing its not the computer it muist be the unit it self...
Cant get a link , tried other computer / cables../ up dates,, its got to be the unit itself.... ive phoned t/max..had a bit of a chat about it.. but ill have to call them back with more imfo, they want the bike hooked up to their ecm l took it off cause l want to ride the bike... & it was 5am here..so l was in the house not the shed,, ill hook it back up friday ,, dont know why!!!! but will ,cause they want to run through what ever they want to run through? l was hoping they would say send it back & we'll take a look at it, & replace it/ repair if there is an issue ... still hopefull
25/2/10... the t/max tek team have given the o.k. to send it back to them, for repairs/replace...
sorry to hear that about ur tmax , ive had mine since 07 and no probs, only thing ive always done is wait till the eng light goes of b4 cranking, in the early days ive had it not start by not doing that, im sure another type of setup would give better fuel economy but would it give as good a power
No negativity intended darkash69 just facts and not everyone likes to hear those I guess. Zippers have plenty of emails from me and many other with the same issues to support, not that they'd send them to ya.
I have no vested interest in any product to sell on here. A look at 1130cc.com for V-Rods will support my statements quite well. I was keen to see if the air head bikes have similar issues. And yes forums are just that, people expressing opinions and that's why most folk jump on these to seek out what others have to say/offer or experience.
In any case it's my experience with the product and yuo can think what you like it's a free world and we are on hear to express that i Guess?

Ive been running a tmax for 30, 000 ks really happy with performance and fuel consumption. the guys i ride with have power comander, bjc fuel shot, factory download, all of us do roughly the same fuel consumption,have roughly the same (seat of the pants horse power) my opion is do the maths and buy what you can afford... by the way any of these systems only run as good as the knowledge of the person installing them... i do let my bike do a system check before firing it up.... i once had a few speedo black outs on a ride, when i got home rang heavy duty motor cycles in brisbane were i purchased it from., they told me to clean the earths on the frame and battery, 10.000 ks later never happended again...
Hey ralph z, yes the earth problem is an across the range issue. I have V-Rod (08) , the wife has Sportster nightser (09) and both have had the earth problem.

o.k. T/Max came back from zippers last week, they changed over the ecm module,& included updated software in the box, (under warranty) seems there could have been an issue with it from the start,, every thing on the screen looks good now, only been around the block a couple of times heading out tomorrow for a few hours, see how it goes, but l think it will be all good.. l was going to piss it off but thats when it wasnt working & giving me the shits..ill give it another chance....
ill still be carring my origonal ecm with me, as ive lost some confidence (reliability)in the zippers product...
however l cant complain about the zippers service , emails, phone calls, approach to rectifiing the problem..
