Wide Tire Kit

Hi. I am researching about Wide Tire Kits. I have a FatBoy 2008 that has already stock 200 mm rear tire. I am thinking about a 300 mm rear tire kit. Some kits needs right side transmission but a company (Zeel) has an option that keeps the left transmission and stock parts. Has anyone experience on this? What about riding and turns?

I was told that once you start to get wear on your extra wide tyre the centre WILL FLATTEN and when it does it will cause your bike to stand up in corners as soon as you decelerate leaving you in a spot of bother.

What about a 240 or 250 rear tire kit? The turns will be good? Or is better save my money and leave the stock 200 mm tire?

Dan, are you saying that riding on a 260 ...or should I say cornering...is difficult if not dangerous??? I looking at a 300, and wanted opinions of ppl who are actually riding wide tyres

    Cheers

    Phar_Kin,
Your right ,you should be accelerating through corners but when shit comes your way, or maybe your going your way to fast, you need to be in control as much as possible and fighting 300+kgs of motor bike going it's own way would probably distract you from the initial problem.

This is my opinion. I have a Rocker and have noticed that on cornering, the bike tends to push you up. You do get used to it, but from my understanding, anymore than 200mm is a waste of time in regards to handling. Wide tyres do look the part. If I had my time again, the bike would not be a softail as comfort is compromised compared to traditional shockys or have a tyre on the rear more than 200m. I know you can spend a fortune to overcome these issues, so I am talking about a stock as the rock Harley.

If you want to have fun and do a lot of twisty roads stick to the 200. The big tyres are more show then go - I know I have one (240) looks GREAT but steers like a pig - really depends what you are after. Or you can always get two bikes - one to show and one to go.

I reckon the heartland EZ 200 kit looks the goods on a softail. Exposes a heap more tyre and gives the impression of a big rear end - and keeps the handling.

Would be keen to hear from anyone who has fitted one as to how difficult it was. Still don't know if I'd have to cut the "horns"off the frame (which I wouldn't do).

    Pretty expensive tho.

Guys, I have a question on this topic.

I have a 03 Fatboy with Phatail (Performance Machine 240) conversion done, that I want to bring back and register in South Australia, I am in Dubai.

Can any South Australian members give advise on what Regency Park testing station will let through?

I really need to be certain as I don't want to ship it back to Oz only to find out it can't be registered.

    Comments?

    Regards

harley have only gone the 200 mm on some dyna and softies to meet market demand. shame that tyre manufacturers havent kept up with "todays" market - a true dual compound on the rear for heavy bikes

My stock 240 rocker tyres handle good. Near 100,000k's and no problemo. Mates at tyre shop said 250,yeah, but load rating isnt right and tyre will wear quicker
