G'day all, New to the forum and new to Harleys.I am looking to buy my first harley finally,at age 54 and I think a Sportster is the way to go for me.I live in Perth and I am about to look at a 1200 custom 12/07 with 1300 klms on the clock. It has been in storage for 12 months and only started and riden periodically. It has SE pipes and a sissy bar fitted, but otherwise stock.Asking price is 15k,maybe a little less. What do you guys think of that price for that model, assuming it checks out ok.Any advice or suggestions anyone can give me would be much appreciated.
Thank you,Scotty
Its one of those things Mate. For the small saving on a 3 yo bike, if you can spend the extra few $, might as well "go the whole hog" and get a brand new one. I had a look at a couple of second hand ones, and ended up with a 2010 custom, SE slash down, sissy bar and gear rack, 2 new helmets, jacket and some other bits, for not much more than you mention.
Not that its not a good price, as its typical, but a new one isnt that much more, and its new, brand spanka, all yours.
If you like the bling, customs the go, but when I look at bikes like stooges nightster, I think they look great. But when its clean, I do like the bling.
Go into a dealer and see how hard you can squeeze him, and when he squeals, squeeze a little more, just for the heck of it. You never know what you can end up with.
Good luck with your choice mate. You wont regret getting a Harley.
Guys, thanks for taking the time to reply and for your comments.I think I will head out to Frasers and see whats available and what sort of deal they will do and then weigh it up against the used bikes.I still havent really decided if a 1200 is the go or if I would be happy with the 883.I would hate to buy something and then regret it 3 months later.I do know that i am really excited about the prospect of my first Harley, and can't wait to get on the road.I'll keep you posted!
Many Thanks,Scotty
2010 Custom is $17,750 ride away list price. Even before I started to negotiate shit, the price was $16,750 ride away. You can do a good deal if you try.
But, if he adds on the airfare to Sydney, petrol cost to ride home, first service when he gets there, might be better to just pick one up in Perth
