Air Ride suspension - Softail

     Guys,

I'm keen on throwing some sort of air ride suspension on the rear of my Fatboy. Done a fair bit of research, including on this forum and the US one, and have come up with Shotgun Shocks from the US. There's only the one post on this forum about them and it's a positive coment. Just curious if anyone else on here has any experience with this brand or any other comments or experience with an air ride setup in general.

My bikes currently lowered and I like the look, but she scrapes pretty easily and is harsh in the ride department, like any lowered bike or car. I want to be able to raise it slightly when the missus is on the back and drop it when parked etc. From what I've read, the Shotgun system overcomes the ride quality issue as you can set the rebound how you like it (hard or soft or in between) as well as the height. Sounds like the best of both worlds to me. Be interested to hear any comments based on experience.

    Cheers n beers

Lucky me bought the last  shotgun shock on e-bay. Cost total $1400au del. I think the last of the older compressor design. They are $1550us but you will be getting a better compressor (I think faster pump up).

Very happy with them, I had read all posts on these. They are fairly new on the market the designer previously owned platinum bleed and feed. Nearly same set up.

They are the ducks guts. Easy install. Need to remove charcoal canister but if you have a non standard air cleaner this would be gone anyway.

Have a mate who fitted a set about 8 month ago to his Xbones. He absolutely loves it. It works a treat and he had no problems so far.

Hi, I got a set installed on my 09 fattie about 2 weeks ago, I had the same prob with it bottoming out, and stock it was a shitty bike in corners.  it raises to full height within 10sec and lowers the same, to add the dampening the compressor can take approx 30sec form empty but thats cool, the best thing I'v done yet  Also put some moded springs in the front which helped heaps, I'll try and upload some pics tommorrow arv

Try Dr.V.Twin on HDForums.com in the softail section. Cheaper from him by buying in bulk from shotgun shock with the owners approval.

    left jacked

This height is just off my bump stops so I have to load up the dampening thobut shes a rough ride, Solo I ride prob half inch higher and and two up up another inch.

When I was recently researching air shocks for my Rocker, the Shotguns came out on top as they have a height control AND a ride stiffness control both whilst actually riding the bike. I will take a look at the Dr V Twin dude......maybe I can get a better deal. I expect to pay ballpark 2 grand or so anyway.

Well the Shotgun Shocks arrived last Wednesday. Fitted on Friday. Man what a ride now. I love the ability to adjust the rebound (from soft to firm). I can get it down nice and low, tuckin rim and then adjust the ride quality. They are also ideal when I carry a pillion, just pump it up a tad and off we go. Mounted the switches out of sight under the coil cover, no ones any the wiser.

I'll try and post some pics. The best mod I've done so far!!

Has anyone fitted the Shotgun shocks compressor turned around with the finned pistion end on the belt drive side?; I read somewhere that this is possible.  If you did, did you have any clearance issues with the Shotgun shock body hitting the compressor and therefore not allowing the shock to lift high enough to fit to two front bolts.  For info, I could not fit the compressor in the normal direction as it was hitting the exhaust flapper valve controller.

Thanks ratsmow, I've decided to go down that route and have already taken off the active exhaust module. I am now searching posts on how to best hold open the flapper valve. I have also read some posts that suggest you need to plug some sort of module into the plug that came off the active exhaust module. Any help on this would be appreciated.
