G'day fellas, I'm looking for some wisdom on whether I should keep the stock headers and put slip ons or whether there is real benefit gained in a full system (thinking about V&H double barrells)...
Pros and cons either way? (also need to keep the volume reasonable - neighbours hate loud pipes!!)
The bike is a 2010 Deluxe and I am planning on at least a stage 1 upgrade.
Thanks for any advice.
Dunno bout other systems , but the SE 16 gauge Double Barrells i had on me Deluxe were great .... Full system , sounded unreal without bein too loud and pulled like a schoolboy with a Hustler .
Dunno wether they're still avail
Hey DLUX, correct me if I'm wrong but aren't the SE double barrells the exact same pipes as the V&H double barrells just rebranded??? I really like the look of the Double Barrells full system
I've got V&H BSS sitting in me shed, your welcome to try them FOC....Not sure if ya need different mount as they were on my 07 FXST....
As for pro and cons the main thing was the ground clearance, the BUB Rinehart slip ons I have on me bike now scrape a bit in the twisties....I also found the torque with the V&H to be down, the BUB's seem to be better .....
No decel pops with TTS tune....
The V&H are very loud even with Quite baffs....cams tend to make noise difference as well....
Slip ons help when ya get nabed for illegal pipes, quick to change for the pits...
Bt
Thanks Steve, can I ask why you went with the 1.75" instead of the 2"??? I don't understand the difference and their website isn't very clear about which size to get?
An SE slip on that performs well? I didn't think that existed
Bems, sonic slip ons, work as well as anything, and are made in Australia. the stock header system have a crossover, this gives some grunt at very low rev, so the slip ons work well ( for the price ) in combination with stock headers.
2 into 1 can give better torque curve in the lower rev range. but unless they are unbaffled and making a lot of noise, they don't seem to make anymore all out HP.
i found i was able to get my best HP and also able to get my torque curve to stay up higher and longer with duels ( just sonic full system tappered end no baffles )
but mate i think if you want performance, and you want to keep the cops off your back on the street these day's you probably need a system like, supertrap supermegs, i think the old white brothers pipe worked the best but they stopped making them about 5 years back. with the suppertrap style you can tune the pipe and tune the sound level. personally i hate the look of them and because i'm old school i would not use 2 into 1, but i have watched them tunned on a dyno, and seen how my mates at the race track go useing those poofter 2 into 1 systems as Cow calls it
cheers
I fitted "Cycle Shack" slip on's , they sound awesome & the power gain is noticable . East Coast Custom's supply Cycle Shack , stick with slip on's for max torque .
Hi berms, I reckon it's gotta make the decision a bit easier if ya narra down what it really is that ya want outa changing the system.
1. It's gotta look good.
2. It's gotta perform better.
3. Noise level. (it's gotta sound like a Harley so maybe ya gotta go easy on the gas when cruisin around delicate ears)
4. Cost factor. ( Hah! your a Harley owner, forget this one)
For me the V&H Big Shot Staggered did the trick, clean lines and looks all the way from the heads. O2 sensor ports are tucked away nicely and aren't an issue.
Performance is great and with the V&H power chamber the torque wasn't sacrificed but the classic "Two Pipe" look is achieved.
Noise? yep there's plenty, but you can buy different baffles to slip into the pipes if you wanna choke the old girl up for the benefit of those delicate ears.
Good luck.
Exactly my point, I don't think that you can have it all ways, if quietness is your priority, then you limit the bikes potential and your choice of system.
Your priorities sound like;
1. Noise level
2. Optic nerve appeal.
3. Performance.
4. Cost Factor.
In that order? It's all about you and what you want.
If that's the case then you're probably wasting your money thinking of a complete system when slip-ons will do what you want.
LOL.... those aren't really MY priorities but the ones least likely to get me into trouble with the neighbours and the cops off my back... There has to be a "middle volume" pipe that sounds and performs well???
otherwise slipion it is for me.
