Is there a true Harley after the Knuckle Head series?

Is there a true Harley after the Pan Head series?

Is there a true Harley after the Shovel Head series?

No one is ever happy that the Mo Co is building reliable, easy to get along with bikes.

I think the XR1200 is the only Sporty, sportster ever built. But that is my opinion, and everyone has a different take on what's there ideal bike.

And that is what owning a Harley is all about, What you believe to be the ideal ride.

The MoCo might have had a rude awakening that the BT's were seen as overpriced and in the days of shoddy sales, their faith in the Sportster line has been increased.

I do agree, I like the etiquette of calling the Irons and Nightsters "Sportsters" or "Sporties". Wasn't long ago that "Sportster" was the decal you got on your bike.

I think with their latest offerings in the Sporty range the MoCo has tried to market them more towards men as well.  It probably started with the intro of the Nightster.   They're very blokey looking bikes compared to the old Sportster standard and customs.

Yep i did join the line up to enquire about the (@#$%) after seeing the add on SBS

Yep i always wanted a sporty. And thats what i did, now waiting till may and very happy to do so.

I must admit to a lot of my mates think nightsters are nice but the new 883 with the mags puts it firmly in the affordability bucket and practical range. and a big plus to me is it has Aussie content yep the wheels are made in adelaide.

A new triumph is some 14.4K at the moment and you know what it doesent even come close in terms of finish.

PS i lined up one morning at stevos in the city Melb and there was three of us one had an R1 me on my old Jota and one with a new 800 bm twin all looking to confirm the price and availability and see one in the flesh, so it might seem that a little bit of advertising on the sporty line has stirred a lot of general interest.

    Totally there with ya TC88

It seems that this Dark Custom de blinging of the standard offering has worked it is a marketing tactic known as rebranding. Its worked really well with most of us now referring to an (@#$%) 883

Mate you have to say it has worked very well its getting in guys like me that would have considered a triumph or even a jap cruiser. Even better it seems to have appealed to a lot of younger riders who see it for what it is a fun city bike no attitude no bling just get on and go.

No disrespect but it seems that the advertising has worked and most of the new guys see a KNOWN brand name selling a flat black bike that looks like something from the fifties traditional looking at a bargain price, stand back and open the doors to the new blokes,

Only problem is it now has a name IRON 883 no reference is made to its history lineage etc etc

I am not a harley man I am a MOTORCYCLIST  and I reckon that sportsters are the only true motorcycles HD make , since they canned Buell. I cant see the fun in riding a 2 wheeled lounge chair  or a pose mobile with 6 foot long forks and ape hangers that make you scared of corners or riding in the rain

sportsters are fun thats why I wear a full face helmet so no one gets to see the smirk on my face

I chose my xr1200 over  triumph thruxton and a honda fireblade

Saw a good observation in a review of the Iron where the writer admitted that HWT were certainly not influenced by their peers. The good news about this is that when you've been making the same model for 50 years you start to get it right - also unlike the new generation of retro bikes (and not just jappas) the Iron is not retro at all - it's just a bit of fiddling with the same old girl that people simply won't stop buying. A genuine classic.

From what I've heard the Sportster is the longest running model of any bike made.
