just wondering if anyone has run across this before and if so,  what they did about it

Have decided to do the Sturgis pilgrimage this year and have booked a couple of bikes from a Harley dealer in LA......and it's very strange...they will offer insurance for everything BUT THE BIKE!

Anyway, what I need is info on who I can insure a rental with for the 26 days I am hiring it. Any help would be greatly appreciated

Sounds like shit to me. US Insurance is a complex game when hiring bikes, they usually offer about 3 diferent levels of coverage, usually bike, bike + medical, and bike+medical+extras (recoveries etc). Usually adds $20-30/day to the rental fee.

We used eagleriders out of Vegas (and LA) for our Sturgis trip and had no problems with the insurance but all took the top coverage for 17 days. Also check your own travel insurance as some cover you for motorcycle rental (as a motor vehicle) and excess up to 2-3K which is usually the killer if you have a bingle. CBA was good for travel insurance inc motorbikes, most others didn't cover them.

Best to pay up with insurance IMO.
