    G'Day All

A mate and I are planning to ride our Road Kings to Melbourne, jump on the ferry to Tassie, do a 10 day tour and then ride back to Perth. All up that is gonna be 8000 klms in 3 weeks. Have we bitten off more than we can chew. The old lady (who will be flying to Adelaide and then on the bike) says our ambitions are greater than our abilities?

I just bought a Mustang One Piece Touring seat and drivers backrest and maybe planning for a trailer between us for the inevitable 20 pairs of shoe's, hairdryers and kitchen sink the ladies are bound to pack.

Any advice, (beside dumping the ladies)???

    Cheers

I've done Perth/Kalgoorlie to Melbourne for the past seven MotGP's on different bikes and no worries at all.

Perth-Melbourne is a good 4 day or very easy 5 day trip but coming back have done it in 3 although never had a pillion so if you plan on a week

in Tassie 3 weeks is plenty of time.  Might recommend an Airhawk though, well worth the dollars, especially if yo're doin big days in the saddle.

I'll join in here....me and the better half are going to Tassie in March on the RoadKing. Meeting up with my cousin and hubby at the ferry in Melbourne. They are on a Street Glide. I guess I will have to follow through the great roads so I can hear his stereo. I have purchased a couple of AirHawk seats for me and the navigator. Tried it the other day, I still reserve judgement. One question I have, is it necessary to dissable the alarm on the ferry trip? Seems to be a big enough ship where it won't get too much movement down in the holds. I have accomodation organised on the first night in Tassie, after that it's no set plan, just ride and enjoy.

you should be ok with your seat, but an airhawk for the pilion is a must... read his posts or talk with Surly as he has just done the trip over

Thanks for the advice, an airhawk seems to be the general concensus, I will definately check them out. Looking forward to the trip as we have been bullshitting about it for years, my mate just upgraded his Buell to the road king so the trip is deffinately a goer.
    Cheers

Living inTassie for 12 Years before relocating back to the mainland I have a wealth of riding experience there...will return one day...great people and a pleasure to ride around.

So I don't write a novel I'll keep it simple, you can do a google for points of interest.

North Coast is a good ride, Stanley to Gorge Town Via the Batman Bridge
Batman Bridge looks great crossing the Tamer River.
Richardsons Harley Davidson, they are in Prospect...5 min from Launceston...they have a restaurant and make a good meal..they are huge so go hungry.
From Launceston accross to St Mary's via elephants pass (Rain forest) taking you to the east coast (Fantastic sea side), traveling south you could dip into Coles Bay for a look at the Freycinet National Park, through to Biceno (Deep blue water colour and white sand),continuing to Swansea and into Hobart along the cost line, full day ride.
I would split it up into 2-3 depending on how much sight seeing you want to do.
    Port Arthur (Convict village)
Gordon Dam on the South West side is a good days ride in land (Large dam wall 1000 feet deep on one side and the water level on the other side at your feet...well nearly at your feet.
Back to the midlands highway and North into Launceston for an easy ride to unwind from the coastal run.

If you are game there is the western tears (Great lake Highway) via Poatina twisty and steep ride (great views and pictures to be taken).

Just a few point of interest I would look at if it was my first trip.

There are many other places to go but as I said I will keep it simple.

Enjoy your trip and be aware there are many log trucks on the road.
