    Gidday you all,

I ride an 06 softail but suffer around the arse after 80 ks on the road. I think my lower back could be shagged.

I was wondering if anyone out there has a similar problem and what they did to their ride to overcome it. I have tried different seats on my bike, I curently have a tall boy seat fitted as I am long legged and also shifted my boards forward 3 inch

I was thinking of having gel inserts fitted into my seat and was wondering if anyone has tried this. I know you can buy gel pads and shit but not keen on the look.  Any suggestions or recommentations on who could fit gel please let me know.

I can't help with someone up there but i had mine done by John Moorehouse at Ergo Seats in Capalaba, Brisbane and it is great. You can give him a call on 32453979. He uses a foam none of the other guys seem to know about and he only upholsters bike seats. I did send a seat from a honda VTR through the mail to him once and it came back better than i could have hoped for but with a Harley i think he would like to see you sitting on the bike to make sure you are happy with the distance from the pegs and back support etc. I live in Caboolture and if you want to have a look at the work he did for me you are welcome to drop in if you are ever down this way. Last time i was there people had come up from Port Macquarie to have him do work for them. And no, I'm not related but i can understand how much it gives you the shits when you have an expensive bike that you can't ride without being in pain.

    Thanks fella's,

Will look at all options and see what happens. An airhawk would be ideal when on long trips. The tallboy seat I have actually sits me up high in the saddle, the airhawk will lift me even further. I might try the airhawk on my fatboy seat, could be the answer.

    Cheers

I too was not keen on "add on's" so choose to get it reshaped and custom covered, Peter put me onto John Moorhouse who I spoke with and sounded really good but when I was ready to post him the seat he dissapared and wouldn't answer my calls or return messages, don't know waht happened there

Pete, is he still in business?

I got onto another guy Bill Hobbs at Custom Motorcycle Seats in Brissy, he did a fantastic job of reshaping and custom cover, no more tail bone pain! I've got a pic posted in the photo gallery.

It costs a bit more than buying new seat but you get one to suit your body and in the style you want, worth it IMO

What pisses me off is that HD put such a shit quality seat on their bikes from the start. You pay premium prices for these bikes and as John Moorehouse told me they use shitty foam and cheap covers (appart from the leather covers) and that's why he is making money. A mate of mine has a Street Bob and after 40,000km (yes he does look after it) it is starting to come apart at the seams, literally, and HD are not going to replace it so he is taking it to be re-upholstered. It's just not good enough that we have to spend big money trying to get a seat that is comfortable when one should come with the bike. Harley do make some seats that are comfortable but that's usually the large touring seats that look so ugly and have so much foam in them that you wouldn't want one on your bike anyway. What you don't see is a good quality seat that looks good and is comfortable, or at least i can't find one in their range for my FXST. And yet you can go to a motor trimmer and have them make you one, no worries.

John M has done brilliant work on two seats on my previous bikes and he's about to perform his magic on my Dyna's. If you can, go and see him as he does have a habit of not answering his phone. A shame, but he's a bit of a maverick...albeit a talented one. His workshop is in a shed behind the old Western Motorcycles shop on Old Cleveland Road at Capalaba. You will NOT be disappointed in his work.
