I am hoping someone might have a firm answer to this problem be it good or bad.
Hot or cold mainly 1st, 2nd, 3rd , 4th gears approx 3,000 RPM and rolling on throttle I get a clatter in primary. Have done the forum searches and the most feasible outcome is compensator clatter due to a weak spring setup.(possibly also causing LOUD CLACK on start up). Have opened primary and checked self adjuster and all is intact and ok. Ramped up a couple of notches to what tension I like to run them at.
Seems like this is a big deal in the USA forums with a lot of guys peed off with 07 models but cant find anything about 08 or 09 models.
Clatter is not rythmical, motor not pinging and cannot duplicate noise in neutral so it is not tappets or lazy lifter.
Sound familiar to anyone? Would appreciate any feedback before considering taking bike back for warranty. Done approx 5,500KMS.
Thanks for any help.
The compensator issue seems to be a common problem with the late model Dynas. I had exactly the same problem, it was a loose compensator bolt. Took it back to the dealer and they fixed it. Take it back and get it done under warranty.
Thanks guys,
After I checked chain and test rode I new i should of checked comp bolt.
I took it for granted that factory had its act together enough to not allow a pretty crucial bolt to come loose.
Looks like I was wrong (maybe) Will whip cover off again and check. Quicker than taking back to dealer.
Thanks again guys
Hey guys,
Took bike into work today whipped primary cover off fitted lock up tool then checked for tension on compensator bolt.
I would of made it to about 50 ft lb then bolt started to tighten, so you guys were right on the money, LOOSE COMP BOLT. I dropped the ball on that one as I assumed factory tightening would of been ok. Was thinking more self adjuster problem.
It had blue loctite which looked like a pretty powdery type (pre coated on bolt) wire wheeled it off applied 262 (red) tensioned 165 ft lb.
Thought I would check clutch hub nut while I was at it , Tension ok but removed nut and cleaned and re-applied 262 anyway. Funny thing that the factory put 262 on clutch hub nut and not on comp bolt.
I am guessing they get the pre coated bolt supplied cheap from an outside supplier. The powdery crap on bolt would be giving drag on tightening and thus a false tension reading on assembly.
Test rode, perfect noise gone.
Thanks again for the good info.
Regards,
Tony.
