Never. If they were the sort of person I'd trust with my Harley they would know that you don't ask to borrow someone else's Harley!

i cant help meself ... you guys are far too precious about your rides ... im assuming most of you are fair weather riders if you cant see yerself loaning the bike to your blood .... Sure, if the insurance is a problem or the boy is untrustworthy then thats another thing ... pisces , you sounded quite relieved that you found an excuse .... i think thats a bit sad myself.

I lent my bike to a mate while we were away for a week and his bike was getting pulled apart for gearbox repairs. Made sure the insurance would cover him first.
And the mate in question is a movie star

my circumstances are different.... I live O/S and have a friend look after my bike. Initially bike was in Brissy and now Adelaide. Happy for them to ride bike as I don't want it sitting for months on end.... and it is insured so they can ride....

as for family/friend asking to ride my bike..... answer would probably be no, but then again I have mellowed since living up here :)

............. I know of people who have lent bikes and it has ended in tears

    3737Pisces, you crack me up.

    FLSTC pretty much nailed it.

I wouldn't lend my scoot to anyone (except my father 'cause I know if anything happened there wouldn't be any dramas).

I don't need to have any excuse or a reason. And if people think i'm an asshole for that well stiff shit.

I don't lose any sleep over it.

Pisces, I'm going to answer without reading others opinions. I'm surprised that your son wouldn't know how precious your bike is to you, where has he been all this time? Obviously not in tune with your feelings and ideals. People around me know better than to ask as they know my thoughts on lending, much the same as borrowing. NO. It's like my mate offering me to take his 47 Indian for a spin. There is no way I would take up the offer, as you never know what could happen. The only people that have ridden my bike is the mechanic doing a test run at the end of a service. Anything happens it's their problem. However I would lend my bike to my mate who has owned several Harleys, as he once let me have a quick spin on his Road King. But wouldn't lend it to any one, espeially someone who hasn't ridden and respected a Harley themselves. The "only insured for my use" is a good out if you need it. Finally a quick rap around the block should all that your son should expect, not a day ride with mates.

No-one other than me and the mechanic rides my bike (and SHMBO who rides bitch). My son has asked a few times, more as a stir than anything, knowing what the answer will be. He needed to get to some of his stuff in the shed the other day and actually rang me to ask if he could get the fob so he could wheel it about 2 metres (  it is only moved if straddled, not side pushed). That was the second time he has sat on it in 2 years. Other people know not even to ask if they can sit on it. Lend it, you have got to be joking!! Dont care who it upsets.

I've had mates in the past and my son in law say to me I was welcome to take their bikes for a spin, but I have always declined, because I know that I'm a good rider, but that dosen't stop shit from happening, but to ask to ride your pride and joy, my answer is NO F#@%IN WAY.

Hey Brother, If your looking at the rental options i recommend deal with the boys at Scoot'n'toot on the Gold Coast (Miami).

Rates are cheapest in the area @ $170 a day, Great lads as well that will go that extra way to ensure you a good rental.
    I rent from them alot
