The missus and I have been chatting about planning to go to sturgis in 2010. The idea so far is to fly to Las Angeles hire a Harley and ride to Sturgis then Milwaukee, Mexico and back to Las Angeles . Anyway we were wondering if anyone else has any interest in comming along ?? We are hoping to be able to get the money together for 2010 and spend at least a month travelling around. Waddaya's think ??
No Jill,never been much of a club type person too many rules for me,but I'm all for discountsyou would be more than welcome to join us,at this stage we want to get an idea of what sort of interest there will be, and if there is enough of us we can start making some serious plans.
There needs to be a lot of discussion about what gear to take and whether we are going to tent most of it or motels etc,etc,etc.
No,haven't left Australia yet but the wife and I have spent a lot af time travelling OZ on bikes and cant wait to do it over seas.

Great Dazza,well thats maybe three of us, I know its a big commitment and I think it would be a good idea if only experienced riders showed interest, not that we would be setting any land speed records but it would be good to have riders that can set a decent pace and ride with confidence. If it does unfold there will be a lot of km's to travell, all types of terrain, and all on the wrong side of the road so the more experience we have the better. I understand circumstances can change over time and i was a bit nervous putting this idea out there because i would hate to let anyone down, but the missus and i really want to go and i think it would be a fantastic experience to share with others.

Yeah I think thats the best way to approach it, I dont think anyone can just say "oh great I'm off " but I sure as shit want to. If you have mates that can join in all the better Dazza.
Thanks also Bones, I have the same issue of H.D. but I was hoping to try and get a better deal, lots of looking to do yet so any help appreciated. Nothing is set in concrete with the trip but we have always found if you start planning, things start to happen. I'm not much good at making big decisions like this either but if we keep talking about it we will never go.

Sounds a bit far fetched,Heavy Duty magazine plan rides to Sturgis every year and dont seem to have those issues. Anyway if worse came to worse we could duck down to Mexico, cause a shitload of trouble, get into a shootout ,beat up on the locals, drink techila,tekilla,tequila ''whatever'' and leave behind whoever is giving us the shits in our group to clean up the mess.And if we dont get out alive we will have a story to tell our grandkids

Welcome to the forum Flan and thanks to you and Red for the info. Do either of you guys have any advice about where to hire a bike ? And, the $150 a night Red mentioned for a motel room,is that what you pay generally in the states or are you talking about sturgis week ? Buying and selling a bike sounds like a good idea but I think I would be too worried about having enough time re-sell it after the trip and the possibility of breakdowns on a scoot I have just bought would be another concern. Are you going to camp for most of the trip or stay in motels.
Some of my riding buddies went over last year and hired bikes over there and had a ball but didnt think much of Sturgis. Next time I see them I will get some info off them...I will come along but I have just got to work out how to get rid of the wife and kids..I will just have to be a bigger "asshole" im called one on a regular daily basis..shouldnt be hard to achieve this result.
