    HUMMMMM.....

Okay I now have the CV carby, the manifold adapter, a home made air cleaner and all the nuts and bolts and cables needed to get this thing working.

It has take me over a month to complete this project.  Finaly got the bike to start and now it is back firing via the carby and will not idle.

After reading up I see that the carby is too lean and I need to ajust this.  However I can not see how to do this.  So to the ones that know, help!

    Regards,
    Troy

hi, with any carb work you allways start at the tank 1st  at least take it off & with the fuel cock off flush it out  use new clean fuel  , clean fuel line & filter  then sort out the carb,    mixture screw should be at least 3 turns out , the idle jet size  should be a 45 /46 to 48 , main jet around 175 -180 for a shovel,  i forget what needle to use ,  you can get 1 out of a differant model bike a needle thats leaner or richer  or you can space or shim the 1 you have  ,the mixture screw is under the carb towards the engine side of things & the jets are inside the fuel bowl area , set the fuel bowl fuel level at 3/4 to 7/8 full.  any  vac fittings must be blocked off that 1 on top in towards the engine side  the old VOES,                                                dont close off any breathers as on the air cleaner side

So much for a recon carby of ebay... I ended up pulling down the carby as I noticed that the acc pump was not squirting fuel. The carby had a lot of gunk in the bowl, and it looks like the pump nozzle is blocked. I an now looking if I can clean this out but can not find out how remove the nozzle, any suggestions?

I guess you could call it faith! I was told it was reconditioned and already had a carby kit installed.

Not any more not sure I like your negative reply but I guess what every makes you happy.

Eveyone has to learn some time.

For anyone's interest I have solved this issue and the bike now starts and idles.

Problem was the acc pump circuit was blocked, resolved by removing the jet (clamp in vice and wiggle up.) Then cleaned out the gunk.

Next is to go for a ride, back soon to report.

Bucket, Thanks for pointing that out :) Its been a long month and rereading my reply it looks like I need to learn to type too.

80% working, bike starts however on the ride it would die and I had to blip the throttle to keep it going. Not sure if still carby or electrical. I feel it is still carby.

Going to get a new carby kit, as Bucket states, I just can not trust anyone.

    An update.

I removed the carby from the bike and found that the 2 jets were blocked too. I then spent 2 weeks trying to get the bike to run. Some times it worked very well then it would oil up the plugs and die.

So I put it on a trailer and took it to K&M and they had the bike for about 3 days ($146). Found the following,

1 - As the chock was missing it needed to be plugged, as it was sucking air.
2 - The slow jet was 48 which was changed to 45.
3 - Reset the oil ball, to stop the oil dump problem.

I was able to ride the bike home with only one cough from the carby but it did not die.

So fingers crossed I plan to have a good ride this weekend.

Onto the next project the oil cover.
