    Hello all.

I have a 94 fxdwg and am wanting to do a little engine work. I contacted a couple of well known harley shops in Adelaide and asked about cam installs, was given a quote for supply and fit of cam and when asked if that would include new lifters, the guy told me i don't need 'em. They are original, 16 years old FFS, i would have thought it would be a smart idea. I'm not exactly filled with confidence.

Any thoughts or recomendations for a good Harley workshop.

I can't understand why a mechanic would say that it's commen knowledge that you never fit new cams without new lifters,it's drummed into you as you become a mechanic check with the Adelaide boys on site where to go.

Depending on where you live in Adelaide. There are a couple of Harley Mechs on either side of town.. And I agree ref the lifters, whilst you have the bike at that stage you may as well change them over. I put knew ones in mine when I done the cams and they only cost $100 or so for 4. I had mine done by one the guys in the forum here who has a lot of experience with Harleys.. If you PM Scotty he can advise you on recommended mechs, or if you have the knowledge and tools you can do your own. I bought all my stuff from the states and saved a shit load of cash even when the dollar was not that good.

hi, yes you must replace the lifters as well as the inner cam bearing with the pre 1991,    B-138 torrington needle inner cam bearing  & a new breather gear as well min , breather gears are  nylon/plastic type original or ,   S&S or jims make steel ones  steel is better but 4 times more,    you get what you $ for, & check the crank for run-out on the end of the pinion shaft while your in there ,  woody is good in S.A.  i never worked out why they call him woody ? maybe you can ask him when you take the bike there
