there is nothin' like the sound of backfiring when goin' thru ur local shopping centre !

giving those frail hearts an extra beat !

    or

end up giving 'em no beat at all !

I use BP or Mobil 98 premium: reason, well like someone said, the Shell rep pointed you in the right direction.

Have a Bro who works at Shell and he says that Shell have to many detergents in it ( don't ask, I don't know what they are) but he says that ultimately it causes problems with your injectors, pots and rings.  Something about scraping lubricants from oil in cylinder and therefore scoring ensues. He recommends BP or Mobil only, so thats what I use.

Beware of no name brands, i.e 7-11, metro etc they could have their fuel supplied from Shell sources.

From a pragmatic point of view, if you are on the road and you are running low, and shell is the only one available, filler up and the next tank full, go back to BP or Mobil.  Just avoid it in the long term.

    Cheers

Where possible I will use 95 octane/premium/ultimate or what ever is available.....If ya ride around the block in the city the choice can easily be made but in the country ya takes what ya can get......In near 50k I have not had a prob with injectors etc.....

BTW there are only a couple of refiners in this country and some imported fuel from O/seas, Singapore etc.....

    Just my 02

I was out at the cooyar blues rally a couple of years ago and the only servo in town still runs the ESSO signs out the front. ( I thought they were long gone) I filled up on there brand and the bike ran better that ever that day. Usually use BP ultimate. bike does backfire and fart when i back off but always has no matter what fuel. someone said its a mixture thing but nobody's been able to tune it out yet. i think its the SE 2 mufflers sucking a bit of cold air, only pings on low octane.

I find this works well for me and the bike and taste good too.

It pays to have some extra on hand too, you know, in case ya wanna go for ride at short notice.

I used to use BP Ultimate all the time but now i use whatever i feel like on the day. My bikes not tuned for higher octane so it's prolly just money down the drain as i've not noticed any real difference with 91ron. I do avoid those nasty independant servos like Liberty etc as they are just too Dodgy.
