Hi,
My name is Nik and im from Colac, Vic. I'm currently riding a nice little "Honda" Bobber and thinking of upgrading to a sportster and coverting it to a hardtail bobber!! im wondering if anyone has had any experience with this conversion or even hardtail conversions in general e.g. Engineering cert's, road worthing, legalities etc. I found a great kit for 83'-03' sportsters but thought before i jump into it ill get a bit of advice from some people in the know!! Any advice will be appreciated!
Cheers Nik
Welcome, love Bobber's
Hey Walka,
Very impressed with your new bobber!!! it looks wicked! its exactly what i want to create (slightly different of course!) im trying to get to the colac show on sat but, ive got a bucks party that starts at 1pm in melb and my old mans 60th fri nite in geelong, so im trying to logistically workout how to do it!! what time roughly would you be arriving in colac?? or is there any chance possibly of meeting up briefly in geelong on your way through to Colac?? Cheers Nik
Came across this mob a while ago that sell Sportster hardtail conversion kits. They look pretty cool if that's the way you want to go. I guess the benefit of a hard tail conversion is that your frame retains the same numbers for rego etc. I'd imagine Walka could add some comment on what these are like?

welcome to the forum
Hey Nick, Welcome........
Welcome Niik hope you enjoy the forums.
Hi Nik,
I currently have a Hardtail Sportster, Paughco frame from the States, infortunately it's in pieces now with some oil leeks.
I did another one off build with the help of a bike shop, and there was a lot of running around with the Trasprort Department and the engineer but I eventually got it through.
You could bolt a hardtail on a registered Sportster and see how long you get away with that.
I'll put a pic of how the sportster turned out, when I work it out. the donor bike was a 2001 custom.
Regards
Geoff
