G'day all,
Looking at ordering a set of 1 3/4 inch Burleigh T bars but unsure on 6, 8 or 10 inch.
Anyone got a set on a softail (custom or standard) and if so how is the strech forward.
Prefer the lower look of the 6 inch bars but not sure if the strech forward will be too far.
Any comments and or photos???
Cheers,
Dodge
Cheers Hilly - their ad on the back page of the latest Chopper magazine says that they are doing "304 stainless steel" bars with a 7 year warranty now.
Maybe they brought it forward a bit.
1 3/4 T Bars = $700
I'm about 5'10" & have 1 1/4" x 8" Burleigh T bars on my 08 custom, the reach is great, I had the 6" rise first but swapped them for the 8", IMO the 6" do look better but 8" are alot better reach for me.
6ft Hilly so with what Nibbla is sayig I'm leaning towards the 6 inch.
Nibbla,
You wouldn't happen to have a photo or two of your bike with the 6 inch T bars would ya??
Sorry Dodge no photos, I only put 6" on to check the reach then decided to put 8" on while I could still exchange them at the shop.
Cheers
Thanks Ando - much appreciated. They look great.
Hey nibbla, i'm also in gippsland. Gloomy joint for bikes. Any way g'day to all I have just joined up, just bought my first bike 2012 dyna wide glide. I'm 5'7 and have reach issues. Have been looking at the 6" burleigh T bars but wasnt sure about the pullback for reach so it was good to read your posts nibbla. Did you change the bars yourself? I'm pretty savvy with most things being a tradie but no real experience with bike mechanical. Would also like to change the cables to bright ones as you have. Any tips?
dude this thread is almost 4 years old but answer your question I would go 8 I had 6 than went 8s on my evo softail and im 5,11 with badlander seat 3inch forward controls but have changed that two two inch, thay are great bars worth there money if you can swing spanners ,and solder not hard to change over never done a late model but iam sure some one here can help welcome to the fourm
Hi Jamie, I recommend the 8" bars with your height but if I did it over I would go for 1 1/2" or 1 3/4" diameter, even more so with your bike having fatter fork tubes than mine. As for fitting tips, if you're gunna work on your bike buy a genuine workshop manual. I unplugged the control wires from the plug under the tank (no cutting & soldering) then ran them through the bars by wrapping/tapeing the ends of wires to a piece of soft string, then tape/seal all holes on the bars except the in & out you want the wires to go through, then feed the string into the bar using compressed air, this will blow it out the bottom of the riser hole, then pull the wires through with the string. You may be able to unplug the wires by just raising the tank not fully removing it.
Good luck!
