Would anyone be willing to put a letter together stating the objections to the bill that we could copy and paste into the email and just change around a little to suit the sender

I would be willing to send a shit load of emails but I aint too good with writing this type of letter

Just throwing it out there for the forum

    Looking good there Fatboy

Just reading through the other posts in the forum I reckon these quotes would be worth slipping in somewhere

Existing laws should be able to deal with any criminal activities without this type of draconian law being passed. (Quote from Rodders)

    And

I support any reasonable attempts to stamp out organized crime and violence but this bill will threaten the freedoms of all South Australians without making us any safer   (Quote from Sandra Kank)

    Thoughts?

    Looking good

I have compiled some more quotes for people to use if they wish

Anybody who has a conviction, Will be found guilty of a new offence if they socialise with another person who has a conviction 6 times in a 12 month period. Not just that person, BUT that can be 1 meeting with 6 different people

These people have already paid the price for the offence that landed them in court and should now be able to move on with their life

The biggest problem is the new offence of ‘criminal association’, previously known as consorting. This could see a person go to jail for five years for associating with a member of a bikie gang that the Government has outlawed.

We are assured that the bill will be only used to target the feral bikies.

The law is not specific about who or which clubs are considered an outlaw group

NOWHERE in the amendment does it mention motorcycles, bikies or organised crime as such.

This bill can, and will, put at risk many of the freedoms that we as citizens take for granted

Sorry, cant remember who wrote the above stuff but it was from this forum and thanks to those for the words they put in various posts

    I've had two replies

    Dear John

Thank you for your email regarding the Serious and Organised Crime (Control) Bill 2007, sometimes referred to as the Bikie Bill.

I am concerned about any move which will erode citizen’s basic rights and will always act accordingly in Parliament.

However, as the Government has a majority in the House of Assembly, my vote is largely symbolic.  Consequently, the Bill has now been passed in the House of Assembly and is currently being debated in the Legislative Council.

Thank you once again for taking the time to contact me about this matter.

    Yours sincerely

Thank you for your email - your views have been noted.
