Heel and Toe shifter

Reading another article today about 6ft 4 bloke finding Fatboys a bit cramped, led me to raise this issue.

Last bike was a Softail so I was used to forward controls. Now I have the Road KIng with footboards (very novel for a while) I found new found freedom.  I also attached cruise pegs on the crash bars, which gives you heaps more variety with the foot position.  However, there was one thing bugging me, the heel part of the shifter. I found that it restricted your left foot movement too much. I tried to get used to changing with it, but it didn't feel natural to me. So the result was, removing it altogether, and I'm much happier. Anyone else ditched the heel shifter, or do you love it??

I took my heel shifter off completely..............

I found that it was a pain in the ass and was getting in the way........

I took off the heel lever. I found it too awkward to use and was in the way for comfort as I tend to ride with my foot toward the back of the footboard. On the highway that is.

Didn't bother me until the bottom of my jeans got caught around it as I was pulling up at lights.

Had to do a quick weight redistribution and put the right foot down before I went arse over

Gave it the flick that arvo

Had an 08 Road King in the US for 7 weeks and 16,000kms - took a while to get used to floorboards and heel and toe shift after riding wideglides in OZ - BUT had a bad case of gout in the big toe of the left foot whilst in the US -couldn't shift up without extreme pain - shifted up with heel and down with bottom of foot. problem solved !!

love the heel shifter. just re-adjusted it so its almost touching my platform. use it all the time. I don't ever feel the need to have my foot any further rear of the board so it doesn't get in my way. I had forwards on my shovel and found that I had to physically hold my feet on em over 100ks. couldn't really relax, got the nostalgia and found a whole nuther world of comfort at higher speeds with the boards. plus me feet never slip off em. scrape em from time to time but no biggy, could do with a set of cruising pegs but i took my crash bars off. My opinion only.

have to agree scotty, mine almost does clear the back of the board as it is and because i set it pretty low i dont really have to lift my heel much at all to give it a shove. i recon it feels like a more positive change to for some reason. never caught my jeans on it either. I did see a bloke get mixed up not long ago and punch his front lever down a gear while he was trying to go up a gear and i must say i have nearly done it myself, The other thing iv done is lower the front one as well because i never have to get my boot under it. only downshift on the front. fucks some mates up tho. its unridable to those who haven't crossed to the dark side of healshifter world.
