I have a very new Sportster 1200 C 2005, I bought it two weeks ago at 1,900kms now it has only 2,900kms. It has short Screaming Eagle mufflers on what looks like the standard pipes. Everything else on the bike looks standard. I am going to get the rest of the service done asap (I have done the oil & trans), but of course everywhere is closed until next week, I do want to keep riding it. This weekend I am keen to ride the new Bogong Alpine road in Vic that opened at the end of last year
It backfires, spits & crackles a lot when I close the throttle. I think this caused by a lean carburetter setting!!!
Can I easily adjust this & can someone explain it to me (easily).
hi. the idle jet size is 45 the main is 175, the mix screw is under & towards the engine side of carb in front of the fuel bowl, pull its plug out if it hasn't been already done , bring the screw in slowly untill its home ( softly set it out 3 turns from home , in is lean out is rich , don't go more than 3 1/2 turns out , if the plug is not out already you will have to take the carb off ,
Thanks guys I will give it a go. Won't be able to get to it until after the weekend & will post back.
Thanks for all the help. I was going to do it myself but as I had to put it in for its first service they did the carb adjustment too, at Phil's Garage . They put in a new jet, A .048 Jet - Intermediate! & now it runs like a dream. So I had to take it for a burn around to the north of town for an hour as the sun was setting.
