Hi All
Well all except paying for it, I just won auction on 1943 WLA - one of the 7 bikes put up by a collector in Las Vegas who is moving to Melbourne with bikes already booked in container. Did anyone else out there have a win on one of these collector bikes? If so have you transferred funds & commenced any importing paperwork yet?
Cheers, still holding breathe and will do until I have my hands on it...
Congrats mate,
but you need to have import papers before she gets here... Department of Infrastructure...
Contact the department asap...

and pay by paypal safesty way...also check if you are covered by them as well.
all the best, when you get her post some pics.
cheers
If they are in the container on the way, he would have
- the Bill of Lading
- insurance to cover the bikes in transit
- documentation allowing the export from the US
All of these items would detail the same exactly, what is in the container, the chassis and engine numbers, the values. Any 1 number changes, then its all bullshit. These agencies would not allow any single digit errors.
Also, if he is selling in $AU, and coming to Australia, then no worries, you can pay in $AU when he arrives, and you collect, as it would be "irresponsible of you to send the funds in $AU to the US" and let him make a loss on the exchange when he transfers the funds back to Aust. So, you are "doing him a favour" by giving him the cash when it all arrives. Take the hint.
It would be just lovely if it is all 100% and you get this without any problems, and I hope everything is cool and works out for you, as I am sure this would be a dream for many of us, but, get all the docs 110% before cash moves, as the docs should be available immediately. When he faxes them to you, and he will have to fax them as they will not be electronic docs, check all the header and footer details.
Hi Mick67, i won the bid on one of the WLA as well have not paid yet but have done some reserch, would be good to have a chat call me on 0418763551
Hey gents (if you don't mind), if this is not above board (i hope it is),, it may pay to let everyone know what is going on (within reason) so no one else falls for any scams. We all work hard for our dollars.
Hey Fella's at moment things are still up in the air for me & Natdog - both of us haven't paid as seller is still reluctant to supply proof of ownership and other paperwork requested as per guidance given on this forum ie bill of lading, customs documents, shipping information until payment is made in full. Some things that I have found out in my research is that you are not covered for disputes by Paypal for vehicles purchased on ebay. After several e-mail back and forth seller keeps avoiding questions of paperwork for ownership.
All buyers are in Oz and I believe three other winners have paid, I have3 contacted all thru ebay with only one response and he has paid and is now concerned as he to assumed Paypal would cover non-supply of bike.
Am I being to cautious? As stated we work too bloody hard for dollars to give away to some scam artist...will keep you all posted.
Cheers
p.s. he will not accept part payment or payment in Melbourne...
I've been scammed on Ebay so if it was me,unless he accepted payment once the bikes were able to be viewed I would give it a miss...Another bike will come along...
Cheers...Sparra
seller is still reluctant to supply proof of ownership and other paperwork requested as per guidance given on this forum ie bill of lading, customs documents, shipping information until payment is made in full. Hey Mick, sorry that this dream bubble is about to burst. If he will not supply any docs, then he doesnt have them. I would report to ebay that this is a scam before the others pay. I dont think he expected you to ask for these docs, as not everyone would be aware that this all exists. Ive been dealing with pimples all over the world too long, and have learnt, if it smells like shit, well it aint clay. See how it goes, but I wouldn't expect too much. Sometimes these things happen for a reason, so keep your eyes open, as the next ticket might be the winner.
Well story so far, more than likely the last, have been meaning to update everyone. After several e-mails back and forward to the seller asking for proof of ownership and other paperwork to do with shipping etc. at the same time I reported seller to e-bay as being suspect due to little or no response...Finally received a scanned document from the seller (it looked similiar to our registration renewals) all started to look bgood and I got excited, however still being the sceptic and not one to part that quickly with a hard earned $13,000, I waited until the following morning to call the Nevada Department of Motor Vehicles.
I was informed by Nevada DMV that the license number on the scanned document was linked to a travel trailer (camper trailer) and registration had expired in 2005, phew lucky I did that check, then the same day I received the below advise from e-bay:

I have since talked to three people via e-mail that did pay for their winning bids (it appears 3 were paid for 'cause I still have the information in Myebay inbox all others have been removed from e-bay), one I have spoke to on the phone and have asked for him to update me with any other communication from seller - natdog off here who I only just spoke with yesterday didn't pay and received the same e-mail from e-bay, he has tried to contact the seller and surprising he has not responded...
As mentioned b4 thanks for all the advise given on here, I believe this will be my last comment on this story, unless it is to report that I am kicking myself due to the WLA's showing up in Melbourne on 27th Feb...
That's a great story Mick and gives us all good warning of what can, and nearly did, go very wrong. Contacting the Nevada DMV was a good call. Camper trailer ay?!! Sly prick!
I imported a Vintage motocross bike from Canada but it was from a Dealer and we'd phoned and e-mailed often. My only concern was wondering if the container might fall off the Ship or some such diaster! But yours!
I buy a shitload of stuff from e-bay and that includes six bikes over time - all from OZ. Trusting the description from interstate sellers is a tad dodgy but overall the experience has been good. Overseas sellers have a real advantage if they're dodgy pricks coz it's extremely difficult to chase from over here. Anyway, happy endings so all good. Good luck chasing a WLA next time.
