This sounds like a Zen koan, i thought about this for a while and enjoyed the silence in my head. This might be the next "One hand clapping".

Technically, some have hit and pasted the standard definition of classic being, the 25 year mark.

When will the general harley riding community see them as classic? Ahhh the silince.....

Seriously though, with the up and coming younger demagraphic of harley riders coming through, anything with a carby will be considered "Old School" I.M.H.O.

American made cycles has 3-4 classic 1984-85 low klm near mint examples.. or had them 4 weeks back..
not the heritage though... thats my favourate but the 1988 model , nice colours and in my opinion the best lookin later model ....im 51 now & remember when they came out , doesnt seem that long back, So l cant get my head around calling evo's classics..im kind of thinking gen shovel , l might call that classic...

Good question but I like to think the Shovel is the borderline.  I gather that may or maynot change in time....... Anyway here is my 86 Heritage.  (The Bunky to Karl)  I don't ride her much as these clowns in WA will never wait for me, with the exception of Beeza LMFAO

pre 72 classic, even a knuckle with discs is in my opinion ruined not classic.

It could be because mine is a 70

The old banana calipers were not much of an improvement and look shocking, your style of riding can dictate a lot of options, as for classic imagine a Vincent,or an MV Augusta,or a  Manx Norton on discs. Drums will never be as good as discs but discs will never be classic.
