is 20W-50 oil the best viscosity choice for Perths climate?

Just making sure I've got the viscosity right...... I'm pretty sure Mobil 1 Vtwin is 20W-50 but some automotive oils go higher (20W-60).   Bike is late model Twin Cam.

It's the higher of the 2 numbers that's important on any Harley.

    Mobil 1 V-twin is 20W50

    Redline "HD" is 20W60

Some of the penrite oils are 25 W60 and 25W70

I ran Mobil 1 15W50 in my Evo Harleys for years with no worries.

All are fine in Perth's heat.

My Mobil 1 V-twin was pretty hot when I got back from Freo a coupla hours ago, 225 F on the oil tank dipstick, normally sits on 200 !!

And that was moving at 100K's on the freeway, traffic relatively light !!

Thanks for the reply gmeikle,  as you are using Mobil 1 Vtwin I am assuming that you reckon 20W-50 is good enough.

    Cheers.

in this heat berms, 60W would be okay. Fuck its hot today.

Thanks AKA, do you think there is an actual measurable benefit in using the 60W over the 50W in the summer months??  Or is it a case of they both get the job done?

i use redline 20/60 expensive but is good because its right size amont for oil for a change its as good as mobil and the extra thickness will be good due to the summer heat

a helluva lot of Shovel guys in the hotter US states (Texas, NM, Arizona, etc) go to 60W in summer when temps stay over 35deg......so andij's logic seems sound. Especially as the TC runs hotter than an Evo.......

    Thanks again kiwidave.....

I just changed over to Motul 20-50 semi-synth today, will ride down south for 3 days tomorra and see how this French(botttled in Singapore) stuff goes.

Hey AKA, I've used Motul 20W-50 semi-synthetic a lot in the past (before Mobil 1 Vtwin)  but never knew if it was any good or worth the $$......  Let us know what you think of it.
