I know there is a few bke insurers out there but until you deal with them your never really sure your getting the right end of the stick!

So on saying that who do you  think offers a good deal?

I was with QBE but now with insuremyride.com

Always, always, always read your policy brochure, especially for the things that could make your claim null & void. I work flogging car/house/travel insurance & did claims for a while and I was stunned at what can ruin your day

I've gone with Western QBE for my bike and my previous. When I called Shannon's, the guy seemed surprised that I would ride a Harley more than a few times a week! Didn't even get as far as a quote, he told me straight up that they "really just insure bikes that are kept in the garage most of the time". Maybe when I'm 55 and have a restored custom Electra Glide, I'll call back...

I know this is an old thread, but I thought you might be interested to know the result of my checking out insurance today ...

Insure My Ride - $342.04pa with $400 excess. Shannons - $1,370.89pa with $500 excess!!! With both companies the bike was insured for the same amount with $20 million legal liability. It pays to shop around!

    I'm staying with Swann Insurance.

I got t-boned in March this year - nearly $4000 damage to my bike plus $500 to my protective clothing. Making the claim was a simple process, their telephone people were always helpful and polite and all the bills were promptly paid.

For my amount of riding Shannons were the cheapest, I was with QBE with my VStar. Both were fairly close in price only downside was QBE had stated on the policy quote that I would do less than 4000km per year.

I found Shannons the best value I have the Harley, the GT and the SRT8 all with shannons and then get a multi policey discount. I will also check them out for house/contents when my current policy is up

    cheers

    We've got Shannons for everything.
The Harley, the dragbike, the transporter/caravan, the ute, house & contents AND $10,000 cover on dragracing memorabilia & any parts/tools.
They are awesome to deal with, actually a bit hard to get them off the phone sometimes as a lot of their employees are dragracing enthusiasts & just want to talk for ages about it.

Insure my ride was cheapest for me. The thing was with them they asked how many years riding experience i've had, not the standard how many years have i held a motorcycle license. So i am sure that helped.

qbe is who we use but in saying that we still shop around,we have found that what is cheap this year may be dearer next time around.shannons may be cheaper.i think they work on the idea that if u sign up then next year u will just pay up with out shopping around

QBE paid up and were great with the speed of assessing. I'd go QBE. No point paying less if they weasel out of paying a claim.

After buying my 1st "brand new" HD earlier this year, I decided I better insure the bugger! Now, I have never had bike insurance before in my life, and have never needed it, but after forking out 30k for a new bike, I thought maybe I should!

Anyway, I think the dealer got a quote for me at around the $650-$700 mark, until he realised that I had zero no claim bonus. That would blow it out to around $1300!

I shopped around and most were around that sort of money........because I had no insurance history....bike or car.

Shannons would only insure to 20k.........huh?

Eventually got on to "Famous bike insurance"............yeah, I know......sounds sus!......but got a quote anyway.............

$660 pa.............gave me the benifit of the doubt.....no claim bonus 65%.............40+, 1 rider, not used for commuting (yeah, right!), etc.

Checked em out with a broker (who doesn't broke for them!) and they said they were underwritten by Caliden, who are apparently reputable. So I went with it.

Hopefully won't need to test em out!
