I have had two cautions, both speeding (122 and 124)
both times I answered all questions with straight answers,

Ok there was a third, cautioned for urinating in public, but I think she let me off with "lack of evidents"

    Hey dudes,

Cops are a representation of our society and as such you get good ones and you get bad ones. I know they should all be good, however...

Believe it or not they are human.

If all else fails and they are just arseholes then after they give you the ticket do what someone else on this forum has suggested. You ask them if they can give you a ticket for what you are thinking. When they tell you they can't then tell them that you were thinking that they were miserable arsehole c#nts.

As for me I'm always nice and polite in case my mother finds out.

Hey Daniel, sorry to hear you had a problem-- to answer your question I don't think they ALL are, but by running your bike illegally you did give them reason to write you up if they want to. I say "want to" cuz it sounds like they have given you a compliance warning only. You said they ASKED you if you have a full license-- did the officer actually sight your license and take any details?
If not, and if they didn't hand you a ticket I reckon your good as long as you fix er up and drop by the cop shop to show them the fixes.

Isn't it unusual to not get an "on the spot" fine? Also I would have thought that with no front indicators you could have had a "canary" slapped on it as well? I would consider myself lucky as it seems you got a warning, but if you don't comply you might get the fine through the mail?

Personally I would call the officer on the business card and ask what the intent is if you comply?

Maybe I just don't get it.....sorry but since it appears that you wrote this when you were "slightly upset" it's difficult to understand your post.

Hope it all works out OK for you- do let us know what's up with this one...

Thanks Unique, I understand this--- but in this case it looks like Daniel wasn't given a ticket, but an opportunity to rectify the defects prior to issue of a ticket. Just my interpretation of his post of which I may be way off....

    Need more info from Daniel...

    Embelishing.

    1. to improve or beautify by adding detail or ornament; adorn
    2. to make (a story) more interesting by adding detail
    3. (Music, other) to provide (a melody, part, etc.)

    none of the above.

For what its worth, my defacto step brother(?) got pulled over 30/12 middle of the day on his DRZ250 (he's only 17) in NSW.

Plain vehicle no siren, started driving close 'pushing him to speed' when that failed started pumping the horn.

Harassed about the legitimacy of his licence. Took photos of bike

'defected' the bike for oil leaks, damaged # plate and no 'L' Plate.

I had spent the Tuesday replacing tyres, chains & sprockets, mirrors blinkers etc to make the thing 'roadworthy'. Prior to this it was dangerous (bald knobbys etc)

The 'officers' gave the kid a hard time about his brief and a minor oil leak and a broken # plate. I had filled in the missing # plate numbers with a marker pen and they were clearly legible. An moderately intelligent person could see that the bike had had considerable money spent on it, and given the time of year was not exactly easy to comply 100% with EVERY law

End of the day a list of charges will be 'mailed to you'

Now the kid doesn't know if he has to have defects cleared, how many $$$ in fines etc and he is still in tafe, working part time. No wonder todays young people have so little respect for the law.

Are all cops arseholes? Well they tend to portray themselves as such. A mate once said, "if you meet a good cop, shoot him, he's bound to turn bad!" Not hard to see how that saying came about!

What state ya in , mate ? Up here in Godzone , I'm in Qld, was on Central Coast NSW for xmas
L-platers cant ride on their lonesome ( for fuckin good reason i'd say ). Apart from the supervisory capacity, what is another rider going to do in the event of an issue? Not all shoes fit all people, but at 17 I could ride better than most people on the road. 7 yrs of racing minibikes and 125's in the dirt improves one's skills before they hit the road.

The kid should just cop it sweet and learn from this early experience ( like the rest of us who went through all the same shit when we were 17 ) The thread started as 'are all cops arseholes?' Exactly what message is he learning here?

Shit happens when you are least expecting it ... so always be expecting it and act accordingly , i reckon . Very true except for 'shit doesn't happen.....it's created by arseholes', therein maybe lies the answer!

The right outlook from the start could make a big difference down the track ( i wish someone had told me that when i was 17 ... not that i woulda listened )

I got my fines in the mail yesterday. As follows -

    1. Label displayed expired & was incorrectly displayed. $117.00

    2. Use vehicle displaying a representation of a number plate. $234.00WTF!!!

No fine for nill front indicators or anything else which I am happy about.

I'm not sure how else I am supposed to display my rego label other than in the holder bolted to the front of the frame? Any idea's on this one? Any way my front indicators should be here today I'll wire them up tack a couple of washers in side my baffles and head to the cop shop to keep em happy. As soon as I leave with my tick of approval out come my baffles again Keeps the drousy drivers awake you see!!

In QLD when you are on your L's you have to ride with someone who is licenced, but here in NSW i see lots of L riders riding by themselves. Attach your rego label near your rear tyre on the left side, on the upper belt cover...works for me.

    Gentlemen & Ladies,

Worldwide there are 'lazy no good for nuthin' in every type of workplace. Likewise, there are people that are simply arrogant, rude, offensive and uncaring. Unfortunately, when that person (who possesses either or all traits) is also a police officer trouble is looming on the horizon when that officer comes across something that could be let go with a warning - but they (the arrogant, rude, offensive & uncaring) will elect to dish out a series of traffic tickets.

It is also fair to get on this forum and vent about those issues. However, there are far more cops out there that wont use the long arm of the law to dish out tickets left right and centre. We just dont see them becasue they have no need to annoy us. But we do see the nasty cop at times; and at times some people deserve to be issued with a penalty for whatever they may have been guilty of committing. After all it is the law. But having said that 'The Law is an Ass' also. Yes - complain about matters - but complain fairly and within reason.

Generally speaking, unfortunatley the police officer has the upper hand. He has the law on his side. By challenging the police will only incite him or her to dish out more tickets or look at other things that may lead other charges. I simply eat humble pie with a 'Yes Sir, No Sir'. Yes, it hurts me to eat humble pie but I swallow my pride and do it.

My answer to the original question is "No, not all cops are arseholes".

    Respectfully,

    Burra.

Dunno, the last time was at the Gold Coast and the cop sat deliberately under the speed limit in an unmarked car in an 80 zone until we (me and a mate) passed him over double lines on a perfectly safe straight stretch of road. He then decided to follow us in his unmarked car (which had a workmans hat on the back dash and he was wearing police overalls) for a few km's until finally pulling us over and telling us that he would have fined us for speeding as well if he could have. That's a good example of my luck with our finest. So getting back to the original question i would have to say "in my experience" that when it comes to traffic cops, they are all arseholes.

Yeserday I finally got my indicators on, re wired and opperating, pipes restricted to soften the cracking(steel wool stuffed up them!!), everything as close to RWC as my bike will ever get, rang the copper, rolled up to the station to see him. He walked outside, walked once around my bike and said, o.k come in side. I asked him if he wanted me to start it and show him if it was all legit, he said and I quote "no, I dont care, follow me.'' We went inside, he walked out the back. 2 miniutes later he walked out and said ''look mate it's still not road worthy, but I dont care. Good luck see ya'' I said '' is that it?'' He said ''look, you might want to relocate your rego label to the left hand side rear, your indicators are still to small, your mirrors are too small I could go on but none of you blokes seem to worry about that stuff so good luck with it see ya'' I said '' thanks buddy have a nice day''. I promptly left the corruption shop and fixed my pipes (back to loud)

Anyway I guess he could have put me off the road again, but didnt. I am thankfull. (sort of confused with his lack of interest in my work as he was so hell bent on putting me off the road in the first place)

Went for a scoot with a mate last night to Lakes Entrance and then to Paynesville, awesome, had a ball, chicks everywhere & a couple of cold beers before home.

So Daniel, do you now agree all cops are not aresholes?
You got to understand, all he cared was that you made the effort, and that you understood that a problem actually existed.
It is this simple acknowledgement and then everything is sweet.
Thats typical, no one gives a rats about the bike, its all about the attitude.
But, still keep your wits about you, as although ALL cops are not arseholes, there are a few power rangers in the ranks.
