Hot rear rotor

I just changed the rear pads (stock HD) on my '08 UC.  I cleaned the pistons to the point they can be pressed back in by hand and the rear wheel can be rotated by hand with very little swooshing sound.  But the rotor still gets hot enough after a ride that I can't touch it for more then a second or two.

I've cleaned the pistons a second and third time but the results are the same...a hot rotor.

Is the hot rear rotor just "normal" or do I have another issue?  Honestly, I had never felt the rear rotor just after riding so I have nothing to compare the current rotor temp.

    TIA!

Mate, not usre of actual temps, but would suggest around 400-450c is a pretty normal operating brake temperature......pretty friggin hot. Even very moderate brake use will see very high residual temps on the rotor well after you have stopped riding.

I fitted a floating rotor to my bike and found the temp dropped a lot.

hi, should flush out old fluid & bleed  at least  2  res full  untill new fluid comes out  the bleeder  don't be shy with it   ,  also check for flatness with a 12" steel rule  if not flat ?  replace disc,  they dish-out  from too much heat , also  if its buckled you will feel it pulsating the pedal under heavy braking ,    harley riders rely on the rear brake too much do most braking on the front brake   the back brake  will not like it at high speed  they are a heavy bike  ,   cheers
