Apparently I am having a mid life crisis, and went and bought an "010" XL1200 Custom.
Cool, my first Harley and its just out of the box. Havent had a bike in years, and jumped on, and its, as they say, just like riding a bike.
I dont think its a crisis though. I cant see anything critical about this, just a shite load of fun going for a ride.
Looking forward to some day trippers here and there with others wanting to get out and about.
Live in the Liverpool area, and plenty of HD around here. Hear them up and down the hill all the time. Booked to get the Screaming Eagle mufflers fitted on NYE. Cant wait.

G'day Rob
welcome to the forum
good choice of ride
Welcome, live in the Liverpool area myself.
welcome mate , enjoy your new sportster 1200
G'day m8 & welcome ...
G'day Dragon,
Welcome to the forum, I hope you enjoy the bike immensely! Some small minded riders will tell you sportsters are girls bikes, but, There is no right or wrong bike, when people ask me what is the best bike, I always say the one whos rider has a big grin on his face!!
I live not far from you, near the crossroads, and you would be welcome to come for a ride with me one day if you like, but I dont know how you feel about riding with someone wearing colours on their back, and of course taking them off is not an option!! You might be fine with that I dont know, its just some people baulk at riding with a patched up rider, so I am just making you aware.
One ride I can recommend to you if you havent been there before is down to the George IV at Picton, it is a popular watering hole for bikes, and always lots of great bikes and people to meet to share a drink and talk bike. I go down there on a regular basis, and what I like about it is there is about 8 different ways to get there, so I always go a different way down and back each time, and no matter which way I go, there is always that great pub to stop at for lunch. They brew their own beer there and it is very nice indeed!

Welcome mate from out west. Enjoy your ride. Buying a bike when you go through a mid life crisis is cheaper and more fun than getting a younger women.
Gday Mate,
I am happy with the bike. Interesting, even the sales guy slipped and said "the other girls that came in" and actually went betroot when I picked him up on it.
Its pretty smick in the black and chrome, and I will bling it up some more, and get the more throaty exhaust on it. Still, its not like a Fat Boy, and it does look a little small around the others, but shit hey, I dont get shower envy, so I dont give a rats what anyone says. Its a Harley, its mine and Im the one with the smile on the dial. Of course, this is my starter to get me back used to being on the road. I do want to get a Fat Boy, but now is just not the time.
Happy to go for a ride with anyone, as its a ride isnt it. its a democratic country isnt it, so we can do what we want, say what we want, wear what we want... So if you dont have a problem riding with with me in my unmarked black jacket on a 1200 sportster, then I am more than satisfied to listen to the sound of a big harley as we power down to wherever. So of course, thanks for the offer, I would take you up on that.
I am hoping to go on the 6 Dams ride on Monday if things go to plan. Should be a great day to catch up and meet with some of the guys and gals from in here. If I am not on the ride , there is a good chance i can get there for the lunch at the George at least. If you are free on Mon. I would recommend it. Hope to see ya there.

Hey Guys, thanks for the warm welcome.
Taff, you are right , its an incredibly beautiful bike to ride. Much better than I dreamed, and got quite some grunt. Cant wait till I get past the "running in" stage. Havent done many clicks yet, but have really enjoyed what I have done. Really hope to be able to get out on Monday and do the 6 dams ride.
Saw your ride there, very sweet. I would go for a ride up the beaches just for the sheer enjoyment of the ride, as its a nice long cruise up from here, and also to check out your breathing and exhaust. I really have a thing about this at the moment, watched countless you tube videos looking at all the exhausts and air setups, but need to hear the real deal and get more information on this. I have Screaming Eagle slash downs due to be fitted next Thurs, but have seen a few bikes with the big open air filters, and the butterfly filters (or whatever they are called), and really looking for more information and see the real thing. One thing I note is the dealers dont have a lot of bikes in the second hand to check these things out, and Sportsters in second hand seem to be few and far between, and turn over pretty quickly, so it shows their value and appeal.
Enjoy your new bike mate,
G'Day Rob,
You and I seem to have things is common - but I think I am a bit later than a mid life crisies - I am just going for it
Welcome Dragon hope you enjoy the forums.
