Hi fella's new to the forum . Just bought my first Harley couple off days ago , streetbob had the s and s pipes put on arlenness big sucker  and se race tuner , got to say sorry i never bought one years ago 300 k and i"m converted  afraid the Vulcan is'nt gonna see much more action from now on. Only one problem put the missus on the back yesterday  had to drag her off kicking and screaming, but did"nt take two minuites to relize the shockers are not worth the proverbial ------ So question for you guys  what are the best shockers to get for the dyna i want to get them done has soon has possible Live in Adelaide who can you guys recomend if any .

Also scuse my ignorance but when it comes to mechanics i've got five thumbs and a empty head , the bike coughs and splutters on deceleration  ocasional backfire, been told its normal , but can't help but think with the pipes breather and race tuner all done before delivery  it should'nt be happening , would a dyna tune fix it . any way i'm off out to put more miles on the clock  so ride safe and thanks for any advice in advance

Congrats on the new bike, a fine choice mate.

As far as I know (and I'm no mech either) Fourneals are about the best shocks. That's just going off what others have said though and they are very expensive.

The popping on decel is a common thing, mine does it too. I run a powercommander which is a piggyback fuel map programming unit. Some here have managed to get rid of the popping on decel by feeding in more fuel at the low throttle positions through the rev range (Sorry not sure how that is represented with a SE race tuner). I wouldn't think you need dyno tune the bike just to make those adjustments as I assume it's bee tuned already after they fitted all the gear?

    cheers

Progressive suspension has always been the way to go, had it front and rear on my old FXD and it transformed that bike.

Had the same tuning concerns and more with my Fat Bob when I put the SE filter and SE pipes on. The guy that set up the race tuner did it on a dyno and it now behaves the way it should. Get it done right the 1st time and you will consider it money well spent.

Thanks for the reply's fella's, will start making some phone calls  tomorrow  over progresive and fournales think i'll let the price dictate, regards the cough and splutter  well found i can control it with the throttle to a large extent , but stuff it gonna get the first service done  and splash out on the dyna after i've done a few thousand . Bike pulls well now but would'nt mind that bit extra just shows really what i've been missing out on, my jap cruiser never felt the need for any more oomph  because i never thought either me or the bike was capable of handling any more , this thing though its just so easy to ride even with the missis on , now 5oo k's and i'm totally converted. thanks for the imput fella's.

    Hey Boxa,
I just put a set of Progressive 412 H/Duty on my WideGlide and after riding 700 km with the old lady and pack on the back (all up a 185Kg load) I cannot fault them.
The transformation is amazingI wish I had bought them ages ago as I cover some pretty rough roads. I tried the 412's as I didn't think there would be that much difference and didn't want to waste money, but if I did it again knowing what I know now, I'd go with the 440's.

    Now for that front end!

    Gidday Boxa,

I use Ohlins piggy back units on my 05FXDX; they are incredibly expensive ($900ea) but worth every cent. They are fully rebuildable with excellent after sales service. They also have a height setting which can be used for lengthening the shock when riding two up. Spring pre load adjustment is for adjusting squat, not for firming up the shock when two up. If the ride is too soft get a firmer spring.

Suspension must be approached as a package, tuned and adjusted for each rider/bike combination for best results The Race Tech web site is a good starting point.

Gold Valves and Race Tech tuned springs on the front coupled with a fork brace and a steering damper have improved the handling considerably. Next I will fit the Sputhe Posi Track chassis stabiliser and a box section braced ally swing arm at a later date. Then it should handle reasonably.

I figure suspension components used on GP bikes are probably good quality.

As for the popping, a quality exhaust with no leaks and a good dyno tune should stop most of the backfiring. With a free flowing exhaust and agressive timing some back fire on decell is normal.

    Live long and prosper, Tux

Thanks for the replies fella's,, went with the progresive 12 found them much better bike rides well  regards the popping  not been out much  with work commitments  but got out this weekend but 800 ks on it. poping not a issue until i got into the twisties around gorge rd   you adelaide guys will know it , any how riding hard in these twisties i found backfiring was coming into it a lot has well , not happy i figure cost me a grand for the se race tuner and arlen ness  thingyme bob, and it should'nt be back firing just cos i ride it a little harder

The bike goes well but after that kind of money i just cannot see how the dealer can fob it off has normal , A little popping on decel i can understand but backfiring not good enough    anyway not going to bother with them just gonna put a couple more thousand on it and get the dyna tune.

Regards the shockers well the progresive work well , the missis still complains there bumpy but  no where near has bad ,  i've now convinced her the dyna are a one person bike  and the vulcan is the one she should get on the back off  cos its set up  for touring windscreen so her hair don't get too messy, bags so she can take the kitchen sink, she agree's so i'm now in the process off telling her  the vulcan is unreliable because its got too many ks on it ( 20.000)

I think i'm getting through to her and shortly with a bit of luck i'll be one happy man with the dyna for me and  a nice rocket tourer  for us alls i got to do then is give up work and ride ha ha .
