With all this talk about helmets, I did a bit of research and it would appear that you can still get a Helmet Exemption in Tasmania. I found this on our transport website:

    "Helmet exemptions

    Description

Anyone who rides a motorcycle or bicycle is required by law to wear an approved helmet.
Due to safety concerns, only applicants with exceptional reasons will be issued an exemption.

    Customer provides

The customer needs to undertake the following through Service Tasmania shops,a designated police station or by mail to the Registration and Licensing Branch:

    • lodge a letter of application.

    Customer receives

    The customer will receive:

    • an exemption if successful
    • a letter of explanation if unsuccessful.

    Payment

    The customer needs to pay:

    • there is no fee. "

What do you reckon an exceptional reasons would be?
