    G'day Forum,

I hope this is the right place for my quetsion,

I took my bike in for Rego here in ACT, took it back to my usual place and they have changed hands, the new guy tells me that my V&H longshots are "Too Loud" and my rear indicators need to be 350mm apart (can fix that).

    Any suggestions??

I have a set of stock muflers but no header pipes, but I was thinking of making some baffles for the Longshots??

    Any suggestions apprciated.

    Cheers

Figjam35, if it were me I would try shopping round on fleabay for a set of headers to go with your stock mufflers that way you have them for the next time and if you ever need to remove a canary, should also consider if the inspectors get picky for compliance your bike should have its OEM approved exhaust system, compliance sticker on the bike and the stamp on the muffler must match.

Making a set of baffles is an option if they are not too picky but unless you've got some good experience with exhaust tuning I wouldn't bother, you will find your engine tune while change with adding baffles, if your pipes don't have a balance pipe it is very easy to get a back pressure variation between pipes which may cause the bike to run like a bag of shit, may be acceptable just to pass rego and then remove them right away but there is always the possibility of damage. Back pressure variations can be caused by a whole bunch of things from different amounts of baffle wrap, wrapping one tighter than the other, baffles must bet set at the correct distances, how much the baffle seals in the pipe ..... can get a bit technical to get them running right and tuneable

    good luck

Can you find another bike shop to go to that will pass it??, or can you put something up the end of the pipes that you can remove after it has passed? Good luck.

I got the quiet baffles for my V&H Big Shots but i think that they would still be too loud to pass a rego check.

    Mornig all,
Thank for the suggestions, I will have a look at the V&H site for the Longshot baffles and see what tey have to say, I think my best bet is to checkout feebay for some headers at this point, will keep an eye on Slip to see how his set goes before I shell out for them, I also have the suspicion they will not be quiet enough to pass rego, but they may possibly be modified so they do.

Good info on making baffles too, I have had heap of suggestions about stuffing wire wool in the pipes, not a serious option but interesting suggestion none the less. What ever I do it will only need to last 5 mins.

    Cheers

    G'day All,
Finally got the rego fixed up here in the ACT.
Had to shop around and speak to a guy who new a guy etc, but all good in the end.

Tried building some baffles for the V&H longshots, bottom line is couldn't get the noise down to 90db, it would have been close but not close enough.
Good thing though, everyone I talked to offered me good advice and tried to provide me with the pipes I needed to go through rego.

As long as I stay out of trouble, I shouldn't need to do this again.

Thanks for the info and advice
    Cheers
