I've kicked off some big posts here about USA websites and where to grab a bargain etc. But had to mention, once again, smooth as silk transaction...

This time was going for clothing (for the Mrs. xmas gift). So went to Chicago Harley http://www.chicagoharley.com/shop/ who always seem great especially for apparal.

Went down to the stealer/dealer, found what she wanted, tried it all on, took photos of the part numbers
then said "no worries babes I'll get that closer to christmas - hear theres a sale coming up"

Going from memory here, but Jacket was about 875.00 or 785.00 gloves were 116.00+, (she has a knack for liking the priciest item).

Ordered online, everything i ordered they did not have in stock and came from HD USA, ordered 7th Dec recieved 18th Dec.
They give you awesome updates all the way along) and I paid roughly.........

    • Silencer Grips (burnished metal) $63.96
    • Womans Jacket $340.00
    • Torque Ladies Gloves $52.00

So you do the maths boys, but basically after shipping, (plus got $113.99 in discounts coz new jacket here is old season there bla bla)
and with USD/AUD conversion... I got the lot here before chrissie for AUD $583.43 incl extra shipping costs to AU.

Now you can look at it how you want, e.g. support local dealers etc etc. But the bulk of the money still goes offshore. Or warranty issues etc.
BUT I personally look at it as 2 or 3 hundred saving than here just for the Jacket - and the Gloves & new Grips for free!!

Bam!! Thats the shizzle my friends.

Gotta admit, the old "support your local dealer" line is a bit sad when you have an experience like that. Quick example - priced a FXRG perforated leather jacket at my local for nearly $1200 (!!!!!!!!) - bought it online from a US dealer for less than $600AUS (inc delivery). Rather that $600 buck difference in my wallet, not my local's.

I ordered and paid (US$450) for a set of custom mirrors from http://www.imagemotorcycle.com/ back in early September. 6 - 8 weeks was the delivery time. We are now at week 15 and they won't answer my emails any more. I'm starting to think I've done me dough

    Amen.

You can support local when some Australia business starts mass-producing bikes...

In the meantime, support your most local party - yourself and your pocketbook. Saving around $600 per these examples is about a week's pay for the average joe - so do you wanna work a week for some mug Australian-based dealer??? That $600 saved can go to another business industry in Australia rather than an importing monopolised dealer.

I put a mate onto M&M (thanks to Wozza) where he purchased a Wind Vest for US$155.00 incl. freight delivered into Brisbane...quote in BNE was $400.00, I purchased from the same source V&H straight shot slipons WITH quiet baffles for AU$420.00 incl. freight to Brunswick...Stealers quoted $700 w/ Hog disc. $620...offered $600. cash...no way was the response..so now it's no way will I purchase locally any more........j

Got a true track through Mark at M and M Cycles, saved around $350.00 compared to the prices Mackay bikes wanted to charge. I'm all for supporting local businesses, but I refuse to pay exorbitant mark ups for any item.
