It's 380mm from the attachment point of the bars(tripple trees) to the lowest part of your bars(handgrips). Run a line from the attachment point of the bars parallel to the ground, across towards the the end of the bars, and then run a line down to that from the lowest part of your handgrips, that should be no more that 380mm. Make sure that the bars are facing forward in a straight line or it will not give a correct measurement. The width is to be no more than 900mm from the widest part of your handgrip to the other one to. I have 12" apes with 5" risers and am still a fair bit under. Good luck, if not sure go to the Transport Department and get a book about motorcycle modifications, what you can and cant do.

this one is usually the killer:

    c) The height of the lowest part of the handgrip must not be more than 380mm above the lowest
part of the upper surface of the rider’s seat

My apes didn't meet this regulation and guess what, even my "legal" standard mini apes don't unless they are brought around in the clamps

Frank, why are there 2 different dates for bikes, i did not know this??? When i got the book from the QLD Department of Transport when i was living up there it did not state any of that, and it did not mention anything about measuring from the seat. Why dont they just make 1 rule...typical Governments. How many of the boys in blue would know the rules???I recon if you carried that book around with you and showed them what is written in the book you should be ok. Are the rules different for each state??? WTF i am not changing my bars.
