Insurance claim

Got knocked off the Softail a few weeks ago, skin has grown back and the bike still gunna cost money.

The claim was FINNALLY approved yesterday, and I gotta pay the excess. This means the visually impaired driver who was booked at the scene for 'failing to give way to traffic already on a round-a-bout' was not insured.

Tip #1. Tell the copper what you think the charge should be. He was gunna go with fail to give way to right - sorry, that one's for std intersections not SIGNED intersections, remember the round-a-bout sign, upside down triangle, white with red border, yes it's a give way sign. If the cops get it wrong the charge could be defended and that could mess with your claim.

So far the insurer has been helpful and quik, the repairer helpful and accuate, the assessor slow but did try to help with a large dollar accessory that wasn't on the policy.

Tip #2. Put all the stuff you put on ya bike on ya policy. Just cost myself a bit for being lazy.

I have seen the repair quote it's about 1/3 the replacment cost not including the few grand I have spent but not added to policy so thankfully she's a repair job.

When I get me bike back I will name the insurer, assesor, repairer and DRIVER. During the meantime I'll let you all know how the repair is going and settle for cruising on my $2500 shitta - a 1982 GL1100 yes a LeadWing but it beats walking.

Deadly glad your ok and mate I can understand where your coming from .

My old ride was written off and it still took a few months for that to come through. I have no idea what the outcome of the police charges where and still dont know exactly what the man who hit us was charged with. All I was told was he might possibly get charged with failing to give way, dangerous driving casueing bodily harm.

When I aske d what was happening 2 months later I was told so long as he pleads guilty I wont be involved but if he pleads Not Guilty I will have to front court. That was 14 months ago now.

Thanks for the support on the incedent AND the road rules.

In a former life I was a driving instructor but couldn't handle the presure the parents of 16yo girls put on a 40yo. But I do know the road rules.

Parts for me bike have been ordered and when they start arriving a workshop date will be penciled in.

Old freind, now retied Barrister, has advised me not to name the car driver as she is already paying the penalty of not having a car (it's a right off) or a licence (had history) and does have 3 kids to support and transport.

Despite what she  did to my bike I do agree that by the time the insurer finnishes chasing her she will have more than paid.

Really I am so glad none of kids were hurt. Shattered glass flying, metal on metal impact, 300+kg of HD trying to get into their car, but they were safe.

Gunna read the posts on "poto bucket" "how to" and then I'II avago.

Parts have started arriving for the repair, should only take another year or so for the HD painted bits going by member rkc's thread on his claim.

Mean time (and it is mean) here's a pic,

don't look to bad does it

just need to buff out that mark on tank

    Here's a close up

and the copper says "You sure it needs a tow truck, what if you ride it slow"

So it's front axle, wheel, rotor, caliper, left and right forks complete, triple tree, headlight, risers, bars, brake master and line, clutch lever and mount, left mirror, tank, fuel gauge, outer primary cover and derby cover plus a page or so of other stuff that holds this stuff on or is held on by this lot.

Great news, so many parts have shown up that they started striping down the rooted stuff.

BAD NEWS, they stopped about 2 hours later. The frame is bent (the ol', "subject to inspection" kicks in)

Back to the insurance round a bout. I hope they don't write it off now.

Thanks for kind words. No I don't own it, about 50/50 with the lender and would lose about 3G on stuff I've done plus the short fall to replace it with a new bike which would be almost imposiable any way with 09 models so close. Is 09 the 25th annaversery for Softails? Hmmmmm

When the frame shows up it shouldn't take to long as it is currently hogging a work shop hoist much to the dismay of the staff. Bikes are like that, won't move without wheels.
