After last weekends run to Hopetoun I noticed oil over the back wheel, took a bit of a look and found it is coming out of the primary chain case past the final drive sprocket seal....Didn't expect to have to deal with a stuffed seal and or a bearing after 45k....SWHD are gonna look at it Junuary 11 and determine what the prob is, I intend to make a bit of a song and dance about it cos I would expect seals etc to last a bit longer even though it's outa warranty and I ride it hard at times....

Now I can claim to have a real old school Harley......One that lubricates inside and outside

mate of mine had the same problem with his brand new softail std. turns out his wasnt oil just overflow from the fuel tank vent hoses, theyd routed them wrong and looked like it was coming out of the primary, might pay to have a look at where your breathers/ overflows arte routed????

    Same prob here BT

Noticed oil dripping from the primary drain plug after the last service at the steelers in Darwin before my trip down to the pub run. Assumed the plug was loose and checked but all seemed OK. I then assumed it was a leaking primary cover gasket.

When I had the bike serviced in Newcastle during the big trip, I asked them to check for the leak and fix if possible

They rang me and informed me it is coming from the mains shaft seal (bigish job to fix)

At the time of the service at the steelers in DARWIN the bike only had 12,000km on the clock and they didn't spot the leak. The bike was still in warranty then!!

I will be ringing them in the morning now that I'm back and having a few words!!

    Hi Mag.....

My oil leak has mysteriously disappeared......Did our local toy run an Sat and not hint of a leak. Did the Mumby pub run on Sunday and gave it a bit of stick and still no hint of a leak

May have been some dirt in the seal that I flushed out when I degreased it.....

I will still go to SWHD for them to do a good check though

Spoke to the stealer today and explained the situation.

A little bit of uming and ahing and denial but talked him round. Reckons they want to check for thenmselves to see where the leak is before they make a decision (fair enough) but would probably fix it (if it is a leak) under a 'good will' clause seeing it's just out of waranty.

He reckons me living out bush also can add leaverage to the 'good will' as I just can't pop in to get it checked when these things happen.

    So far so good.
