    Hi one and all

Firstly I must admit,I have made the silliest of mistakes. I have brought at set of cams on Ebay (CVO 255), thought I had done well.  I have since found they are from a 2005 model which is differant to an 2009 model. Smart Hey?

So now I thought I would ask what cams shoulkd i buy and once you pick your self up from laughing you might  help me with your wordsof wisdom.

The bike has a stage one kit with hooker tune master pipes and the cat removed from the pipes.

    Your advise greatly appriciated

    Dave

Lanoseal-- not trying to change th subject, but did you get the cat crap removed from your 09 header here in Oz? If so can you provide a bit of detail?

    Cheers,

    Hi  V2Evo96

Removing the cat in itself was a mission. In my past experiences with cats they were a ceramic material but the Harley one seems to made of a Stainless Steel blend. I initially mafe up an extenstion to fit an inch and a quarter hole saw. It didnt work because the cat material waste'nt brittle and would not come away. I had to resort to rmoving the entire exhaust cutting it where the two inlets join with a grinder. I then dug out the cat with a screw driver and chisel. used compressed air to ensure nothing left in exhaust and the welded pipe back together with a mig.  Took abiut two hours in total.

I have a 2009 Ultra with no cat and I run 2009 CVO mufflers with 2" Fullsac baffles.

Put the Andrews 26 in with no other modification and tuned it and runs well for a stock bike.

I suggest asking people who have done the mod to same model bike as yours as they are heavier and have different requirements.

It will need tuning though and I found I needed to remove fuel from the accel enrichment for takeoff which was surprising.

Plenty of cams to choose from but not really that many if all you are going to do is change cams and no other work.

Perhaps make a plan of what you want to achieve and stick to that plan.

Good advice Scotty - a good tune is a very important part of the equation.

Not to go too far off topic..... but how do you like your no-cat headers and CVO muffler combination and how loud are they?

I contacted Scott at Hillside and was advised on the Woods TW6-6 with 4* adv gear and a good tune is a great combo for the 96" twin cam touring bikes..  The dyno charts that are up on Woods website are a testimony to the results these cams can produce.

They are loud when you get on them but otherwise can still hear the radio...........

Hillside always reccomend Woods cams but sometimes for a mild build the cost of the cams has to be calculated.

Woods cams are not cheap yet they are ground by Andrews for Bobby Woods.

Always a good cam for torque just a hit on the hip pocket especially having to buy the 4* advance key as well.

Yes, they do cost a lot more...... theres no question they are great cams, its just that they also do really well with a bit more compression..... so then  you may be tempted to pull the heads and get a little work done as well just to get the most out of them...... and then when you have the heads off  you may be tempted to go with a big bore kit because you can still use these cams and just get bigger jugs and pistons and then it just keeps spiralling up and up.......... ha ha ha.

So I tried to keep things really simple and I went with the Crane Cams and nothing else.
