G'day everyone,
I am a Aussie living and working in the US for a several years, who recently caught the v-twin bug. I have spent some time on the US equivalent of this forum chasing down tips and advice regarding parts, upgrades etc and becasue I am finally relocating back home to Sydney in the next 6 or 8 months (with my bike of course) I took a look at this forum to try and grapple with the local regulations regarding upgrades, particularly exhaust noise - but I'll get to those details in a tech thread later......
Being 2 hrs from the York, PA Harley factory and in the middle of the US east coast, you will all be pleased to know that outside the Philadelphia city limits, big v-twins out number 3 or 4 to one all other makes of bike put together. In summer, on a Sunday morning ride around one of the renowned bike "Routes" in the countryside outside the city you will pass literally 100's and 100's of fellow Harley or other local v-twin riders on everyting from choppers to baggers to v-rods, all somewhat customised, out for the same relaxed ride, and everyone of which without fail drops you a wave, which to be fair is easier when you pass to each other's left!! It's days like those Sundays, a few short tours and a couple of poker runs that has over 5000km and 9 months given what I am sure will be a lifelong affliction - the v-twin. But damn it.....winter is here and its just not the same at 2 degrees C......or less
So now its time over the long cold winter to complete the next round of mods to my bike and getting to know the local scene in Oz before bringing it all home mid 2010 (right after Sturgis...), to ride with with as many of you as possible......
This looks like a great forum - condrats to you all.
Cheers, Billy.
