    Whew!!!!!!!!!

This is getting bigger than Ben-Hur!!!!

I can personally sympathise with pretty well all of the comments that have been made. I have only recently been part of a group where one rider (in front of me) was seriously petrified of cornering. They had 4 times the KM distance experience that I have yet still haven't improved their

    confidence in corners.

I decided not to pressure the person and stayed way back so they could go at their comfortable speed until the next stop. Then I made bloody sure I was in front of them when we left for the next section!!!

We should all be able to deal with a new rider who is getting their bike-legs back but this only extends SO far!

I am beginning to understand Brissy HOG's angle at the provisional thing but I don't believe that it is the best answer. Maybe it's better to accept new members and then find a way to help them if they obviously have a riding difficulty. I'm not saying that I know how to deal with this

but........ well............you have to go with the majority vote most of the time and just maybe, these less-confident riders need to improve to a better level if they want to continue to be a member of a bike club. Perhaps they can start behind the pack and make their own way to the

    destination...........or maybe leave first.

My HOG rides have mostly been excellent. One or two were faster than I would have chosen as I like to enjoy the scenery on the way. Some have been a little slower than I would choose. In general, I am very content with the way it is. I also enjoy solo rides, rides with my missus and

rides with my mates. All riding is great to me. They are just different.............like having different meals each day.

I would say that a HOG run on average never goes beyond about 70% of the full capability of the bike with a competent rider. That's a nice level to cruise at.............enjoying those long leaning bends............opening up a bit on the straights........ plenty of time to see the elephants and

giraffes in the fields as you enjoy the ride.

Certainly, a very small number of riders are not capable of more than say 10-20% of the bike's capability and I think that this is where the problem arises. These guys should have bought an MX-5 which would suit them much better.

I wouldn't want to be rude to them but I wouldn't want to ride with them either!

    cheers

I think MJ has summed it up pretty well. Just take a few minutes to digest his comments, they both tell a good story.

The only thing I would add, if thats the dirrection people want to go, let them. I certainly do not care.

"" before we came to the desision of tellin him he had to leave both local and international membership.""

And you got the front to promote "Freedom to associate" I know i don`t have the details but freedom to associate in any language means just that, how would anyone feel being asked to leave any group.

Differant opinions are what makes us individuals, respect for those differences is what makes us get along, hypocrisy has no place in this world, if you promote something you pretty much have to live by it, not on your terms.

Back to HOG, good stuff, bad stuff, politics, i reckon they have a place as all clubs do, they promote the brand we ride, which can`t be bad, they are a social club not a bunch of bad ass boys, a heck of a lot of nice social people and clowns same as other social groups. Rules- love em or hate rules is rules. Personally not for me, i`m the stock exhaust quiet type, ride pretty much by myself, not a loner or recluse just quiet , opinionated and cheap, but respectful of others choices. though i may snigger at blokes what wear chaps and doo rags.

Thought I might do a ride in January with Trivetts to check out the group. Any feedback on this chapter? How are the people? Do the intro rides only attract new or dud riders? I'm back into it after 36 years, fairly comfortable with my riding (having an absolute ball!) but have never ridden in a group so I reckon it might lift me up to another skill level by exposure to other riders. Don't worry - I'm not the bloke who is going to fall off in front of you (anyway I hate pain)...but I reckon you can never stop learning.

"all can associate with whoever they please."  that is the point i`m making. and anyone who makes rules to discriminate is no better than our goverment.

i`m not trying to wind you up, but when you promote "Freedom to associate"  it means for all, not just the gifted few,

Yes i do ride like an old fart on a 40 yr old shovel on drum brakes. but i f**kin love it .

Sorry for hijacking your HOG thread.

I got a renewal also. But I didn't renew last year.Call me a sceptic, but do you think it's about the dollars? If I could get a few bucks of every Harley owner each year,I print a couple of magazines that said how good I was, allow chapters to be formed that organised these same donators to spend more money to associate with each other.
    D'ya think?

Would be delighted, not quite 40yr old being a 1970 model  but only a few weeks off.

    Back to HOG, SORRY AGAIN.

hi all . lot's of interesting comments , here's mine . i'm a hog member in Vic .  we don't do thenom rule  , we do get new members to ride at the back of the pack , especially the newbe riders ! just until their confidance builds up , yes we do have , B.B.Q.'s , they are to introduce new members , better to feel welcome than to feel like a bag of crap sitting on your own , as far as politics go , what club or organization hasn't got politics !!!  plenty on this forum . as for rides  , we have one  break on a 200 k ride , have lunch, then each to there own on the way home , i also like to ride on my own , and sometimes with the patch clubs , the bottom line is , there all good rides , no judgements , do your own thing , RIDE AND ENJOY !!! cheers , lucky .

Some excellent comments from the forum as usual. It's always good to hear what other riders have to say............often there are angles that I haven't even imagined and someone always puts in their 2 bob's worth. On the subject of the occasional poor riding standard I would be the first in my club to chuck in a tenner towards that rider doing an "advanced" riding course (or ANY riding course) if there's any chance that they could improve. This would benefit everyone! Personally, I would prefer that they are in front of me rather than behind me. That way I can give 'em some room and at least I know I can stop easily if they have a problem.  I have no dis-respect or dislike of these fairly rare people. It would be good to help them improve if it's possible to do so. That's all.

    cheers

Evening Chaps and Chapettes....Read the postings...nobody is forced to ride with the Hogs and yes I pay twice for the privelage of being a member and Road Captain...just got home from our "Make a Wish" Ride where 30 Harleys rode Kids around all day at Keilor here in Melbourne. I think we had more fun than the kids... I'm a big boy and can cop critical comments but before you get carried away, we do a lot of good and I understand that many riders don't like the formation riding but that's ok.....We have all types of experience in our club that we willingly pass on to our people in fact anyone that cares to listen, we cannot all be ace riders but the joy of "twisting the throttle" should be available to all....we possibly met a few future riders today....It's all good....Ride Safe....j

    Nice one "jacks" !!

I had a good ride today with my local HOG in Perth but had to knock off a bit early with a few other things I needed to do. Later on I cruised down the road to fill up ready for next weekend's ride. A young guy, about 19 was filling up his 250cc Suzuki. He walked straight over and asked me how long I had had my Rocker and was I happy with it.  He told me has dreamed of owning a Harley since he was 12 and has another 4 months to go to get his full licence and then buy a used Harley. I suggested he give the local HOG a try and to look me up when he does. It was very refreshing to see a nice bloke with an ambition and a love of riding at such a young age. The youngsters out there are not ALL bad!!   Maybe we should give them a bit more of a break than we often do!
