G'Day guys. Quick question. I think old age is finally catching up and my throttle hand is giving me some grief on long rides....my wrist ends up killing me and its giving me the shits. I have seen a few of these aftermarket throttle lock and cruise control kits around, but wanted to get you guys opinions....bike is 97 FatBoy. Any advice appreciated.

    Cheers

I just bought a $10 ish throttle rocker, which I rarely use unless I'm on a really long ride and I get tired.

Meh, when i've had wrist/'finger cramp on a long ride it certainly takes away my pain, but even resting your palm on the rocker makes you feel stiff (and not in a good way) after awhile (though you can just grip normally again and change between them) - plus they can be a pain in the ass when riding in town for some people (accidentally reviving by putting your palm on it), though I've never had a problem and the pack does say they aren't really for around town use... For a few bucks you really haven't got anything to lose and its a good option to try imo.
I was under the impression that throttle locks were illegial (I could be wrong) btw?
A crusie control is by far the best option, if money is no option - I'd grab one if I didn't have so many other things to pay for :)

I suffer from Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, and used to not be able to ride more than about 10-15km or so before my fingers started to go pins and needles and eventually they would go completely numb. I went and bought a $10 throttle rocker from MCA (the type you can just clip on and off again in a few seconds) and have since ridden to Brisbane and Melbourne with no problems whatsoever, not even a hint of tingling. I thoroughly recommend them, brilliant idea.

As far as throttle locks go, be careful, they can and do cause accidents. I use the original thumbscrew on my bike ('86 EVO, when they still had them) but I dont do it very tight at all, just enough to releive the pressure on my wrist, but only enough so that if I let go completely, it will still back the throttle off, albeit quite slowly. That way I can still easily back it off in an emergency.
