has anybody found their front tyres scalloping or cupping on the 09s yet?

i have just arrived home after the tassie rally and the wear on my front tyre is very irregular

looks like this is the 1st time in 30 yrs of riding bikes the front tyre has to be replaced before the back

had 8000 klm when i left for tassie and i reckoned my back 1 would be shot on the way home so got a dealer to make sure he had the tyres to fit for me in moree.

checked tread 3/4 thru trip [5000 klms there + back] and was really stoked to see the new rear tyres on these 09s  wearing very well!  so didnt worry about fitting new ones on the way

but there was increasing vibration +  a humming noise comming from the front 1/2 way thru the trip, howling around corners ,even my pillion could hear it!  looked like the frnt tyre wasnt wearing properly

thorough inspection at home and the front tyre startin to look like a knobby, scalloping out pretty badly.

did a bit of research on the USforum and came across a h/d bulletin that has been sent to all the dealers over there .......and a letter that has been apparently sent to all  US owners of 09 tourers more or less stating that h/d will be compensating affected owners of these bikes

have sent copy of bulletin to morgan+wacker [no reply as yet]  and another dealer[who has replied with a long letter saying aust dealers have not been notified as yet]

dont get me wrong i am real happy with the wear on the back tyre as i used to have to replace them about 9000klm and have now done 12500

but if there is a problem with the front one how come the yanks are compensated and not us?

dont know how to post a link to this hd bulletin[which is supposed to be for dealers only]  but you will find it on the US forum or pm me and i will email it to ya

                                         cheers

My 09 Ultra had 13,500 Kms up and no sign of abnormal wear on the front. And as others will attest to, I rode the thing pretty fucken hard.

My 09 Road King has 8,000 Km's on it now and the front is looking as new.

Don't know what is happening to your bike, but I have no problems as yet.

    Regards Bob

I'm with Bob, no drama's on my ultra, just clicked over 9000k's , no irregular wear, not even squared off after coming back from the Island. Even the back tyre still has

    plenty of tread left.

    Cheers

my bike now has 12700 on it now .

at  8000 klm when i left for tassie my tyres were the same as yours

no noticable irregular wear and heaps of tread on the back

now with the trip finished and an extra 4700 klm......... still heaps of tread on the back, although starting to square off a little and will be changing soon

there is also heaps of tread on the front     but...... the front D407F tyre is fucked up due to scalloping  both sides although more pronounced on the right , which i assume is due to road camber

tyre pressures checked before leaving qld      38lb front 40 lb rear

checked at launceston  and have just given bike its service and checked again

but all i know is they are compensating 09 owners in the US, who are having problems with the D407F tyres

                                                                               cheers

My first pair of D407s lasted 9500ks and were cupped, feathered and utterly buggered. I have never seen a bike tyre wear like that in my whole life.

The bike has 17000km now and is gonna need another front before 20,000. It is cupped but not as bad as the first factory fitted D407.

HD have issued a service bulletin and are paying for replacement tyres in the US. I have writted to them asking for them to pay for mine.

BTW my bike is a 2009 RK with a S&S 124ci kit and is belted daily.

I am totally sick of these damn D407s. My 2nd pair has 7000km and are feathered and fucked. They werent too bad but I did the putty road twice in 2 weeks and they are rooted now. the back is as bad as the front, which is unusual. I tried more pressure but it made no difference.

I am switching to metzlers. No fuggin way are dunlops going on this bike again, even if they were free.

I have asked HD for a credit on this pair now that the recall has been issued. they said no of course.

I have put over 25,000 km on my bike since June 09 and changed the rear tyre out at 14,000 k and have just ordered a new rear and front from SWHD, 2 weeks wait for a front tyre.

The front one was starting to show abnormal wear and scolloping at about 22,000 kn and is nearly down to the wear marks.

Wonder of the front is dual compound too, and the side wearing a lot before the middle????
