Hi, We have just fitted an EV27 cam, S/E adjustable pushrods, new HD Lifters & Crane Hi-4 single fire ignition to a mates 91 FXRS. Prior to fitting the parts the bike ran great, after fitting parts it runs/goes much better but now has a strange knocking sound coming from the top end at idle, with revs just off idle & the sound disappears.
We didn't remove rockers etc., cut old pushrods & fit adjustables.
6 months ago we did another mates 93 FXR with nearly the same parts (Dyna dual fire ignition & standard pushrods) & it doesn't have this problem, obviously we romoved rockers etc. to use standard pushrods.
Can anyone explain?
Nibbla
Scotty,
Have checked pushrods twice & it is correct as per HD instructions, tappets at lowest point, adjust pushrod to zero clearance then an extra 2 1/2 full turns, tighten locknut.
Pushrods are S/E quick install p/n 17987-98A
New HD lifters used.
Wozza, All spanners accounted for thanks for your input, lol
If the rocker shafts & bushing are worn shouldn't the noise have been their before the cam change?
How can we check & fix the pushrod rubbing the tube?
Thanks
Thanks Scotty, will check it out.
hi, did you re- shim up the cam to 0.006" to 0.012" end float , as well as the breather gear ? breather gear can take more end-float , also as the andrews cam is supplied with it's own driven gear you must also check for gear lash from pinion to cam gear + did you replace the inner cam bearing very important , cheers
Update: I pulled the pushrods yeterday & found small marks on top of 3 pushrods & inside the tubes, machined 0.4mm out of the top of the tubes, put it back together, fired her up & the noise is gone.
Thanks alot for your help
Cheers
