I'm really sorry to hear about the hassels you're having fellas

I haven't come across anything quite like it over here but given time I'm sure it'll come

It's been a while since I've ridden a bike in SA ... by the sound of it I won't be in a rush to do it again  for a while

If, as one of you mentioned, some of the coppers were imports from the UK please feel free to send them back .... we wouldn't notice a few more dickheads in blue uniforms.

Make no mistake that if these laws go ahead the cops won't distinguish between so called "outlaw mc's" and a group of HDForums and/or BACA members going out for a Sunday ride. As soon as they see a bunch of individuals together who wear the odd leather jacket and have the odd tattoo they will hassle them because the law says they can. This is exactly what happened to our group on Saturday.

Also try to remember that anyone who is a free person or group and allowed to walk the streets can organise an event just like the Jokers Poker run. It should be up to other free people as to whether they participate in that event just like our group did on the weekend. I really take offence at the government and the cops telling me or anyone else what event I can go to and which ones I can't.

    Fatboy,

Don't get me wrong I'm not making an argument in favor of anyone who breaks the law and like you said neither do I want my actions to benefit anyone who breaks the law. But I rekon that the focus of the police and government should be on the illegal actions of individuals and/or groups that break laws. It's these actions that can be proven in courts and targeted at people. In contrast there's nothing illegal about a public gathering that's an open invitation to people who aren't even associated to the organisers. Once you make it illegal to turn up to a public event you're going down a slippery slope.

Sorry to hear what happened in SA. I dont know why they dont catch some real crims that prey on kids? maybe the paperwork is easier to fill out. Can you let us know how you went with getting off on your loud pipes and the law in regards to this as we get picked on a bit up here as well. They dont seem to pick on WRXs with loud pipes. Loud pipes on cars dont save lives.

These new laws have to be stopped before the rest of the country is over run with them and no one can go out and ride.

Its not these rides, its the whole outlaw club thing there coming down on Theres so much shit going on they brought too much attention to themselves , now there paying the piper fact is the law have the biggest gang in the world, Rann is giving them a free rain and there out to show who is the bigger and badder. Got to get used to it anything even remotly connected to these clubs , drink at there club , hanging down the pub or club  with them or going on runs of any sort  with them and your gonna get harrassed , defected, fined and put in the same basket.

Rght or wrong hard one suppose that depends on if you got mates who are members or  if your a member, but fact is at the moment there a new sherrif in town and he's just reminded his deputys that they have a bigger gang  and he's out to  either lock em up or drive em out of town.

Few years ago the clubs were around but they just went and done there own thing  last few years  they have had a lot of bad publicity and scared the public the public and that leaves the cops no choice but to get heavy handed. And gives a bad politican  a good platform  to get votes through scare mongering rather than doing a good job.

Ranns using these  clubs to make out he's a tough politican doing  the right thing when politically he's doing sweet fa.

Just hope they don't get me my slip ons cost 6 hundred bucks  don't want too spend more money on them ha ha

Haha, I like the way you think, Fatboy.

Had an email back from Sandra Kanck today. Apparently the "Sunday" program has been filming in Adelaide for a story on the bill. She reckons this might be on next Sunday morning.
She also emailed me a copy of a parliamentary circular from the South Australian Council of Social Services which was pretty interesting. I like this extract which questions the actual sucess of "Operation Avatar".
SAPOL has claimed that Operation Avatar has so far resulted in over 600 arrests since
its inception in 2001. Even if we use police estimates that there are only around 250
criminally active bikers in South Australia this must mean that this group have been
arrested at least twice during this period. Therefore if this rate of arrests was affected
under existing legislation such as the Criminal Law Consolidation Act and the Summary
Offences Act why is it that we need new legislation and new powers to tackle criminality
in this group of 250 individuals?

Just sent Mr Darley an email.

Man, I hope there's enough common sense amongst all these pollies to see the problems with this bill. Hopefully a bit of media attention will stir up the general public as well.

Moving right along with this thread theme......it happened only last Saturday evening.

My wife and I had to head to Adelaide for a lunch thingy, which prevented me from going on our club run to Booborowie. Just before home we called into a local servo on Highway 1, and as I pulled in I noticed a bike that looked like my old Softail. As I pulled up the car under the parking bay, I looked again and it was a lad I know with his 2005 Softail. He was sitting in the outdoor tables having a snack and his bike was parked close by. We walked over to the bike and I introduced my wife to this lad. For the next 10 mintes or so we discussed how the ride went that day and how is bike was going. He had new bars and a couple of other changes since I had spoken to him last. Next thing we see a cop car heading south past he servo with lights flashing and motor roaring. Another motorist bites the dust I remember thinking.
Bugga me about 5 minutes later this same patrol car comes back and pulls into the servo. Not only does he pulls in he actually drives his car right into the parking bay where we are standing, I actually had to step forward a foot or more so he could pull up right next to us and the bike.
This dude (local cop) opens the door, gets out, looks the bike up and down, ignorant as all hell and saunters off into the cafe.

A normal cop it would have went something like this, after he pulls up 2 metres away.

"evening folks, nice night out tonight"
"yeah it is a nice night, been busy on the highway tonight? We have just come from Adelaide and there is not much traffic on the road."
"yes it very quiet, I only had to warn one motorist so far, he had a faulty trailer light" I told him to get a globe at the next servo if he can"
    "coffee break I guess?
"yeah, almost time to head back to the office".....nice bike there sir, take it easy on the road tonight people, have a good weekend"
"yes you too officer, have a safe shift".

Not this ignorant upstart......minutes later he comes back to the car, hops in without a grunt, starts up the car and pulls away.

No wonder we have no respect for the law, and probably the majority of them are not too bad out of the uniform.

My wife said to me after he left, " I think he would have went ovr this bike with a fine tooth comb if we wern't standing here talking to Chris"

I think she was spot on!!!!

they dont get it and probably never will.

I don't think that is exactly correct Crimson. I'm sure that if people were able to get along and help on the day they would, but work commitments prevent this for most of us. As it turns out I will be in Adelaide on Monday, but bugga me dead I have to be back for work starting Tuesday, otherwise I would be there gladly helping handing out leaflets. That leaves the rest of us doing the "protest" in another ways that we can manage, ie talking about this to people we know in our own community. It has been discussed at our local bike club.
