    Hi all,

Heading to Brisbane on my Night Train shortly, plan to go through Broken Hill...hopefully not have to stop at Wilcannia....and through Walgett, Moree, etc to Brisbane..

Anyone got a better route, (I'm picking the shortest, less travelled way at present) but not sure of the fuel stops. I get about 280kms to a tank, depending on headwind of course..

    Thanks

    Glenn

Wilcannia to Cobar 261kms I would get a 5 litre petrol tin and definitely stop to fill it in Wilcannia

I would (if leaving from Adelaide) go across the Hay and up through West Wyalong, stuff the boring Broken Hill to Nyngan desert, and you will miss Wilcannia,

Thanks guys, I got a plastic 10litre jerry, fits on my home-made rack...and means I don't have to worry about fuel. The Hay route does seem better than the Broken Hill one...

Once you get past Broken Hill it is boring as bat shit till Nyngan. I didn't take extra fuel as I didn't need it. That was on a Honda that got the same milage as my Softail. I filled up at BH, Little Topar and Wilacannia ( Spelling). Other than that watch out for the roo's and big bloody trucks

Well, I ended up taking the Hay - West Wyalong route, plenty of fuel so no need to carry any. My Night Train has lowered suspension, a single seat, and with a swag, tent, and clothes on the back..not a really soft ride. My backside hasn't forgiven me yet (didn't help we did an 870km round trip two days later...) The worst bit of road was the stretch from Hay to Rankine Springs, only due to the dips and holes that had my bike bottoming out every 20 metres or so..and lots of the roads out there are made from large 14mm material, which tends to chew up your tyres.
Oh, and the speed limit on the Newell Highway from NSW to QLD has been reduced from 100 to 90kmh now...luckily no cops seen most of the way :)
