Perished HD aircleaner WTF!

    Hi all

I'm giving the bike the 'once over' and clean before the run down the guts to the pub challenge.

Pulled the air cleaner off and it seems to have perished (again)

I say again because it happened to the last one as well. (about 1000km)  I put the last one down to - maybe old shelf stock or the stealer damaged it when thy put it on. I put this one on.

The rubber is falling to bits, perished. It is the bottom of the air cleaner so I'm wondering if fuel is leaking and stuffing it. (you'd think an air cleaner would be fuel tolerant!!)

Any ideas, suggestions, is there a better alternative? This is a genuine HD part.

This filter is about 3000km old

Had a look at the butterfly valve and it looks like the rubber has been getting sucked into the engine

K&N it is then. Don't know who supplies them in Darwin. It's just as quick and cheaper to buy down south.

Any suggestions as to who to buy from?

From what I can see they are around $100. ????

i know this sounds wierd but is it carby or injected and has it ever backfired thru the throttle ?? if iy has it could be blowing the path of least resistance or weakest point in the rubber ? also oil sitting in bottom of cleaner ! had a sporty once that spat the entire cleaner assembly and carby off the manifold once due to start up backfire thru carb ..
